G'day,

First post here!

Couple of my best mates and I just went 3 ways in a 4 metre Quintrex running a 25HP envinrude. We're quite new to the whole boat thing and I just wanted to ask a couple of questions.

None of us have boat licenses, and I’ve been looking around at a few places on the net.

Can anybody recommend someone?? The only website that I could get a price from was Allstate Boat Licensing and that was $150. This sounds a bit expensive to me.. I was asking a few guys that I know and they seemed to think more around the $120 to $130 when they did theirs.

At the end of the day, the price really isn't that important, I just want a coarse that's going to teach me everything and be good value for money.

Also, the boat we bought has pretty much everything that we want already (sounder, electrics and nav lights etc. etc. but there are a few things we still want to get for it like rod holders, a flare kit, V-sheet, good length of rope and some crab pots (keen to get into crabbing now that we have a boat). I know BCF sells all this stuff but are they the best place to buy stuff like this from or is there a cheaper place in Brisbane?

thanks a lot in advance for your help.

make sure you get the right gear for the job and get it installed correctly when you buy gear for your boat. It is not cheap if you find that it doesn't do the job and you need to get a replacement. ie plastic rod holders and the cheapest, but if they break and your rod goes overboard, you are up for replacement rod/reel and rod holders. Make sure you buy enough anchor rope and chain the first time also. Good idea to have a few trips first to get a feel for the boat, and check a few other boats out to see how they are set up, before you go shopping.

cheers.. yeah i have no idea how i'm gonna do the rod holders... does anyone have any pics of how they mounted theirs on a tinny?

I think thats probably wise words about getting a feel for the boat first few times we go out.. will probably just go for a couple of small trips on the river and just take it easy till we get more confident at handling everything.

Yep, except, match the gear to your boat and your target. Dont waste money on expensive gear you dont really need.
