Throwing a net for livies!!! Help!

Recommended Posts

Hey I wonder if anyone who lives in the Indropilly area who knows how to throw a fishing net for live bait could give me a hand?

I have the instructions and pics and will give it a go but the best way is watching someone actually doing it and coaching one through the basics.

Good Idea or not?

If anyone could lend a hand that would be great.

Hey mate.

Yeh I live around these parts so after uni's over I could come and give you a lesson.

I taught myself and it was fairly easy. I just brought the computer into the backyard and watched a few youtube tutorials and practised what they were doing.

Do you have a net yet? i started with a 6foot one and it was easy to learn, but as you get better you will want a bigger net to catch more, starting with a 9 or 10foot net might a good idea, it will take longer to get the hang of it but will catch more bait, i wouldnt start with a 12foot net, they are fairly hard work.

hmmm I've heard heaps of peeps say that bigger nets are easier to learn on, so I'm not sure if you are right or if I am right:P

BTW I started with an 8 footer and now throw a 9 (both mono). I find the 9 much more consistant. The increasing experiance probably helps too no doubt:)

I also only buy the cheapest nets I can find, and only when they are on special as they don't tend to last too long in the river where I use them.

yep i tried both those ways and was hard, this guy showed me at the ramp one day when he saw me struggling and it was heaps easier! i just wish i had time to meet up and show ya. the over the shoulder thing is a waste of time in my opinion, also as to size with the smaller nets you got to be careful not to throw them to hard or they open to early and start to close before they hit the water.

best tip i can give is

if you think there is a slight chance of a snagg dont throw it

lol i pulled up a pushbike off wello point peir (one 7ft net stuffed)

a push bike at indro golf course ( one 9 ft net stuffed)

and a pushbike at yeronga ( one 7ft net stuffed)

seems there is more pushbikes in the river than on the road so be carful.

regards

shopping trolleys galore around pacific fair/jupiters casino - many a good net has been ruined there - we once paddled a huge canoe along the canals for an hour or 2, had a cast, caught a trolley, lost the net, had pies, went home. 2 new nets in 1 weekend - gotta love it

this is 1 of those things that is hard to explain, but easy if you got some1 who can throw a net, to point out whats going on, i know a few ways to throw 1, but i can only throw it properly 1 way, but my mate i showed can't throw it the way i throw it, showed him, and 2 casts later he was catching bait, hell, he was that wrapped he caught bait for everybody on the pontoon that night.

for some reason i cant view smidermans youtube link. anyways, if you follow the ausfish link mention in earlier post, you'll find 2 ways of throwing demonstrated by steve and nugget. I find it much more easier using steves method when throwing an 8-10ft net especially when im throwing it off a high platform/bridge. Any bigger i'd use nuggets style but beware, you will get soaked after a few.
