Rod for Daiwa Steez 103HA

Recommended Posts

Well in a couple of weeks I think I'll be buying a Daiwa Steez 103HA.

However, that leaves one question. What rod do I match it with?

Going to be using 10lbs line and using it for lures like spinners, buzz baits, jackals, mask vibes, and some smallish hard body lures.

Any recommendations would be great.

I was thinking maybe a G-Loomis Mag Bass MB782-GLX, however not 100% sure. Is there anywhere which sells a wide selection of G-Loomis rods taht I could have a feel of such a rod?

fishyman I said MB782 GLX is what I'm currently looking at, it's a 6'6" rod 8-14lbs FAST action

Plastic Man: because it would cost too much. I can get a Gloomis (I think premade that rod costs $700 or more?? One site I saw wanted $830 - not sure about other stores though) made for a bit cheaper (or any other blank for that matter)

Kevin: I'll have a look at that series, thanks.

I was in the BCF at the Gold Coast recently and I'm sure I saw a mass of Loomis rods there.

Cheers Will - had heard you didn't like the steez

Nabs told me you used a GUSA blank? Have you seen/heard anything about the St Croix SC V blanks? One of them that I'm looking at was a St Croix Legend Elite rod - apparently suppose to be pretty sensitive, up there with GLX's and more durable due to St Croix manufacture processes

haha, angolee, ur a steez fan or DC fan?

it's ok terry. the ito 103M's more of a collector's reel.most ppl will buy more than 1 if they'r gonna use it.

steez's a great little reel and u'll enjoy the typical daiwa engineering behind it, joy to use but u gotta take care of it

DC's a good reflection of shimano's engineering concept, easy to use and soild like brick.

Had a look at Jones', had a feel of that Mag bass blank.. Feels alright, might go for the St Croix blank since it looks to be a bit faster in the action.

Steez felt pretty good in the hand, very lightweight and not too bulky

reels like the Core felt massive in comparison, as did the Chronarch and Calais

For saltwater applications I'll be picking up a Daiwa Zillion in the near future as well.

Just an update: Daiwa Steez 103H (JDM model) will be flying in from Japan within the week, and the St Croix SC V rod listed in the thread is flying in from the states, along with a custom butt section from matagi to be custom built by one Lee aka Pcsolutionman

as Big Kev would say, I'm excited!

I am just trying to decide between a St Croix or Loomis blank to match up to my Advantage 153HSTA. I am only looking at the cheaper versions though. Trying to decide between a St Croix 3S60MF or G Loomis C722 GL3.

Has it arrived yet Terry? Would like to know what you think about the St Croix blank. Have heard they are a top rod. Thinking about going with it as every man and his dog has a Loomis.

Getting mine custom made by Gra, too lazy to do it myself.
