Will send you a PM with a couple of links to threads on them. There are a number of brands and all have positives and negatives including price. SE Sports Plates are a 1 piece plate that fits either side of the leg and secures to the cav plate. Its made of a plastic compound, Stingrays are very similar but are 2 pieces being one for each side. Permatrim is an aluminium plate which fits the same way but is a solid plate that runs further back from the motor and not as far out to the sides.

All are designed to provide lift to the rear of the boat, getting it onto the plane quicker, reducing fuel cost etc. I have an SE Sports Plate on my 4.2m with 40hp and without it, the boat was acting like a slug. But be warned, they have been blamed for roll overs and near misses (I showed Kriso one day when he was in my boat how easy they can start to roll) as if the motor is trimmed down with the plate past the horizontal the water pressure will provide lift as it gets resistance from the plate. Do this too quick and bum comes up, nose goes down, boat rolls to one side off the keel line, bum comes up quicker and over you go.

Will send PM of threads shortly.

It is to stop mincing the ski lice when you run over them. The lifesavers use something similar. Dont think it enhances performance its just a safety thing.

Gee I have thought a bit more about this tunnel contraption thing. I think it would provide more concentrated thrust and a better direction of thrust for turning, but then I think the water flow to the prop could be restricted aswell limiting thrust.

Jury is out, but it looks the goods!

It concentrates the water flow therefore increasing the thrust !!

Similar to a jet boat!!

Easier turning, quicker off the mark and as I said before pulls up quicker.

Plus stability through the wash of other boats.

It's good in my opinion.

To each his own my friends!!

Cheers.

Yea for sure... each to his own. My only concern is that you can only produce as much thrust as water you can suck in. If you restrict the area in which the prop can pull water I would think it might reduce thrust. Love to see it on the water one day though and have a fish at same time.

Whats it made out of?

It's made from PVC pipe , theres more to the shape than meets the eye!!

It has to be shaped to cut through the water otherwise it acts like a drogue!

It's all to do with the leading edge and trailing edge...just like a planes wing.

Cheers.
