queensland Winter whiting Southern Bay 26/6/08

Decided to give the new boat and motor a try out today. Heard that there were some quality winteries on the chain banks so picked up John Ford at 9 am and launched form Victoria point ramp.

Headed off and played around with the trim and tilt and max speed 50kph. Thought that's not too bad and suddenly warning buzzer goes off.

Slowed down and found that if it didn't go over 30kph e4verything seems OK. Rang the bloke I got the motor from and he said its probably the thermostat and to bring it back and he will fix it.

By this time we were level with amity banks and decided to come back a bit closer to home.

Tried several spots on the Banana Banks and very scattered fish so moved over to the pelican banks with nothing there also.

Went up to the bank SE of the flashing Yellow off Goat and finally got on to some fish.

Ended up with 50 odd whiting ,which was more than enough for a feed for both of us. caught in a little over an hour.

We were back at the ramp by just after midday and still had at least a 1/4 of a tank of fuel .

Will be happier when the thermostat has been changedm He is also going to raise the motor on the transom another notch as the steering is very heavy under way.

Cribb island worms and squid they bit best on the worms mate got them yesterday at Chain Banks on squid and heart.

yeh we got 80 on monday and 60 odd on wednesday near the mouth of the river on worms and squid.

rayke1938 had same problem with one of my motors it was the impellor in the water pump; up to half reves ok but any thing over would not pump enough water :angry: could be your problem to :cheer:

I was speaking to an old salty a few weeks back and he reckons that squid sliced into thin strips dyed with cochaneal works a treat on the whiting. He reckoned it makes the squid strips look like worms.
