I have a shimano calcutta 100 reel on a shimano bass raider line weight 3-6kg 1 pce 5'10 reel is spooled with 10lb nitlon pe braid i used it only in freshwater for bass still in good working order $120 for the combo

If I was not saving up for my Glenlyon trip I would have been on it like a dog on a bone!

Do some practicing in the back yard, then fish on your own for a while, (not to save embarrassment, just save someone whacking you one when you keep miss casting ).

Start with some heavish soft plastics or spinnerbaits, put all the energy into the start of the cast, and you'll sort it out soon enough!

i agree the heavier lures are the easiest to start with. i practised at the park across the road with a small sinker tied on to the line

good tips fellas, It's been 10 years or so since I last fished BC (cheapie JW combos) so it will take a while to gain confidence.

Rod, better quality baitcasters are much easier to cast than cheapos.

I can actually cast a decent quality stick, but I'd probably hit myself in the face with the lure if I tried to cast a cheapo. I'm very much a novice at baitcasters:)
