Advice to newbie

Hey people

Am a newcomer to this site and love it. very practical. just one suggestion...when i logged in to find out about the Classic, there was no mention of a 2008 event, maybe i didnt look in the right place. But actually, i need some help. I've fished uparound the Sandy Strait, Maryborough, River Heads, Fraser area, but am new to Brissie. My brother wants me to take his daughter out somewhere down Wynnum way, but by the look of the posts on this site, it might be a good idea to perhaps try the river first. The bay is big, and i imagine you need to know exactly where you're going to even get a bite. I'll be using my brother's little 4.2, which isn't built for chop. My question is this. Can you help me get onto an area around the mouth somewhere from the south side of the river? Where are the ramps, what roads are they on and where to once the boat's in the water. Would appreciate any help you can throw my way.

wooo howdy jimmyjack... fishermans island which is the river mouth port district has a good ramp with good access

follow this link http://maps.google.com.au/maps?f=q&hl=en&geocode=&q=fishermans+island&sll=-27.428105,153.031205&sspn=0.006752,0.009656&ie=UTF8&ll=-27.400994,153.16658&spn=0.006753,0.009656&t=h&z=17

boat ramp is central.. zoom out and you'll see the river area. out past the container wharves along the rock walls is excellent.. beware of shipping tho..myself and nitris watched some rather large waves come in thru a passing ship one very low tide, luckily we were in a hole near the wall and ended up OK..

yeah man once the boats in the water head left there..its all pretty open and easy to navigate.. tug boats dock there so plenty to look at and perve on... once you come to the main river you'll wanna stay a way off the southern bank due to the container and other wharves, ships always win over a 4.2m.. i say cruise over to the north bank and up along it.. less populated with huge man made things..

a good bait spot is this link:

http://maps.google.com.au/maps?f=q&hl=en&geocode=&q=pinkenba&ie=UTF8&ll=-27.377731,153.160175&spn=0.006507,0.009656&t=h&z=17

its the poo point ( luggage point ) outlet of brisbanes waste water and holder of craploads of bait, we normally get good results cast netting there.. also all around the boat ramp tho are mud flats n such where you'd be bound to pick up whiting/mullet etc etc to use..

we had a good session here:

http://maps.google.com.au/maps?f=q&hl=en&geocode=&q=pinkenba&ie=UTF8&ll=-27.347183,153.187276&spn=0.006509,0.009656&t=h&z=17

were using half pilchards as bait and no sinkers, just letting it drift about, caught a lot of pinkies, bream and little tailor
