  1. Ouch, I'm not laughing but    pissing myself. :woohoo:
  2. Mate I use bait casters for barra but young Ray uses thread line only and he catches more barra than anyone else I know. He uses 50lb braid with twisted leaders on his big guns and never has a problem. In fact he is usualy confidient as apposed to doubtful when it comes to fighting metre plus fish. He uses a range of 3500-6500 reels. I landed a metre plus on his 3500 shamino and I think the braid was 50lb. You should be OK with the 3000 as long as you get the braid size up and it's a fair open water fight. My last trip I lost top barra to undersized line and leader on bait caster while throwing hollow body plastics. I'll never do that again, it hurts too much.
  3. My last deckie spot I lifted the guys boat in the hardstand, cleaned the prop shafts from fouled lined, hosed down the hull and re-applied the anti foul as needed. Well sort of me, I had the staff do it while I took a sickie. THe trip cost me $50 for fuel, he supplied all food, another deckie supplied bait and I just goofed off. I think he took the $50 as a token to make me feel better. Why did I goof off? Becuase the skipper said "bring your own tackle and nothing else". I kind of think the skipper is the skipper and it is up to him to advise the crew on what and how to play in his boat. Sorry Gazza, but you should have given clearer instructions to deckie at the same time as being aware of deckie's personal circumstances, compensating where need be.

  8. Mate they make good mullet bait. But you need haeps to burley up the shallows and put a hook in one. Gezz them mullet go off when you hook em. As to eating them - Yuk:sick: only if I was stranded starving on an island, then I bet they would taste good.
  9. Come on Als - you are killing me - what sort of reel? I luvvve over heads because they are that little bit more complicated - but if I was to give any advise it would be to get some live bait and heavy wire trace. Learn some good knotts and hang on. Fishing is a buzz but catching fish is even better -if only I could remember how:pinch:
