  1. awesome stuff mate. well worth the frost bite on the beard for those.
  2. Oh don't worry, I remember... still plotting my revenge. great fish there though guys, you didn't try the fugu on the BBQ as well @AUS-BNE-FISHO?
  3. Epic stuff mate. awesome awesome fish. shame about the sharks but good soup / stock bones i guess...? that's a fish i also covet - one day... one day...
  4. that's two reports of yours i've missed in a row kelvin... i put it down to years and years of unsuccessful reports changing my internal algorithm and making them harder to locate... but seriously - what a day. i have only nailed the spotties a couple of times and they are hectic days for sure. awesome your boys got to experience it, and the old boy as well. congrats mate.
  5. good to see you back on the water Ray. I'm sure Percy and the eagle have missed their snacks.
  6. missed this one - looks like a top day out mate. have pulled quite a few good fish off the sevens reef when i fished out there, definitely worth another look and a good sound around. like all spots, boat traffic can kill it. the striped tuna are great pan fried to about medium with a bit of sesame oil drizzled on just before serving.
  7. it is near impossible to find a spot near brisbane/gold coast that no-one else fishes. Suggestions for success: - Fresh or live bait is always best. In estuaries this could be yabbies, worms, small live fish, soldier crabs etc. For beach/surf locations live beach worms or pippies are great. - try and fish during non-peak times if you can, weekends will always be busier - fish as light as you dare, personally I believe anything more than 10lb in the estuaries and surf to be overkill. as far as locations go - without you giving us a lot of info as to what areas you like to fish and what fish you like to catch it is hard to recommend an area. there's heaps of spots that will produce well around paradise point, the canals at the back of surfers and along the broadwater, if you put in the time to crack the code re tides, baits, rigs, time of day etc.
  8. i do worry about your safety going out in such appalling conditions Ray... be careful out there!
  9. yes, brown sweetlips, brown morwong, blubber lip any or all of those are correct. legal size would fall under the "sweetlips" category - 25cm min size and bag limit of 5 per species. they are ok eating, must be bled very well on capture and iced.
  10. I’d check the weight capacity of the roof and then the roof racks. Outback’s are about 36-38kg which shouldn’t be a problem on most cars with decent roof racks. Stability wise the further apart the racks are on the roof the better, invest in some good tie downs and you should be fine. It would be significantly easier to lift onto a Corolla for sure!
  11. I didn’t realize the photo was so revealing…

As in you “took care” of the forkys I assume? Surprised those eagles can still get off the ground…
  13. Only 1 under 40cm for the day, best one went 53.5cm. Great when a plan comes together - despite the skipper’s back suffering from a serious case of olditis. Thanks for the trip mate, plenty of bags of deliciousness just cryovaced and ready for the freezer.
  14. geez, those conditions are choppy as...
  15. Now the important question… Where did you get the pies and would you recommend them?
  16. you only like me coz I give brian marks and then he takes you fishing there…
  17. Thanks for sacrificing sleep and taking me along for the ride mate!! shame that whatever are that bugger whiting never showed itself but we’ll get it next time! and thanks to @Allnighter for helping to get rid of the bad juju on Friday…
  18. welcome to the forum. They are allegedly a more common fish in winter, however, I believe they are around all year (like whiting are a summer fish but you catch them all year). I haven't targetted them specifically around the brisbane river, however, have caught several larger ones in breakfast creek in the cast net and one off a sandy beach in the river at new farm as well. i have seen people fishing for them along breakfast creek and as previously mentioned by others around the boat passage at fishermans island. good luck and look forward to seeing how you go with it!
  19. Are they the same ones you get in tuskfish as well?
  20. I think they use wild pigs in croc traps so we shall call you bacon breath…
  21. Nice one mate. I work at kurwongbah and being dry was nice today. Still think I would have rather been fishing though!
  22. looks pretty good mate. i think you could have many fun days on the water with that one.
  23. modest goals for me... - find time to go fishing - take daughter fishing more
