  1. Hi everyone, Went on a solo trip to Mud last Thursday morning. Just as the sun was peaking over the horizon I baited and cast the first rod with mullet strip when I started baiting the second rod. ZZZZZZZZZZ and my 6lb line is peeling off, it ran me around a snag so I left it to cast my second rod in. Tried freeing it again by standing on the gunnel and lifting rod as high I as I could and ZZZZZZZZZ its off again. After a few minutes up pops a 50cm Snapper. While its on the floor of the boat the second rod with half a pilchard goes off and finally up comes a 50cm Grunter. What followed for the next hour was chaos as I could hardly keep a rod in the water. Final keeper tally was 3 snapper (50, 42, 37), 3 Sweetlip, (43,40,38) 2 trevally (42,40), 1 bream (29), 1 javelin (50) and 1 mother in law (43). The mother in-law (my first ever) was bled and eaten fresh and tasted pretty good. Not sure why they have such a bad reputation. Didn't get another keeper after 6:00 am, did manage the biggest stingray I have ever caught though on a fillet of Grinner. Got about half a dozen just unders in the snapper as well.
  2. A mate just texted and said its a black sand Bass. I think he may be right. As to the whiting, it took a flesh bait on a 2/0 hook and was 28cm winter whiting.
  3. I caught this at Mud island Monday. I have never seen one before and it is not recognised by my Fish ID app. It was around 25cm long and released to puzzle another fisherman. Tally for the morning was 6 grass Sweetlip, one bream and one whiting.
