That try was unbelievable. Warriors were unlucky not to win. As were Newcastle. Worked out well for us tipsters though. @GregOug, I haven’t had any trouble with tips or margins changing but it takes the fun out of it a bit when you can’t see others tips during the game.

Old Scaley got a reaction from ellicat in Can we all pray to the weather gods for a break from this damn wind
Fished Jumpinpin today and contrary to the forecast the weather was perfect. No wind or rain. No run either so not a lot of fish. 6 whiting in the early 30s and a thousand tiny whiting and undersized tarwine. Crabs came to the party though with four good bucks to take home and a lot of giant females.

Old Scaley reacted to Peter K in Fishing rod factory tour video
Hey cool video.
A few things I've notice from my experience in making a pitiful 5 custom rods:
When they are in the stage of apply the sticker or paint for the rod name and specs to then wrapping and epoxying guides there is a step that seems to have been missed. Usually once a blank has been polished the rods need to be tested to find the ideal bending point. I would typically hold the blank about 45cm from the tip and hover the rod butt off the ground, slowly twisting the blank from the tip, the butt will then do an up and down bobbing movement, you will then need to be consistently watching till it is going completely straight up and down not wavering in an oval shape if that makes sense. By finding this bending point the rod will then assembled in the most ideal direction so that when a fish is hook the rods bend can occur straight down not down but with a twist because the rod is out of alignment.
Additionally, before and after wrapping on guides they should be tested for alignment with the reel seat. You can make small adjustments after the wrapping has occurred, once your sure they are aligned the you should apply epoxy. If you watch carefully (14:50), when he holds the rod up to the lighting and against a white wall he is checking alignment after epoxy, this is dumb because if a guide is out of place it can't be restored and therefore that rod isn't produced to the ideal standard.
Anyway, just my 2 cents, I'm not knocking the video, it was quite good they were just two things I noticed being different from what I would normally do.
Cheers, Peter.

Old Scaley reacted to Neil Stratford in Driftwood
I took a drive down to the Tweed river and collected some driftwood for the garden earlier this month. I found a well weathered piece of sleeper that I thought I could make into something interesting. With all this crap weather I found some time and got out the electric soldering iron and etched a Kraken into it to add a bit of character. Next piece I find , might make a Rum tasting paddle with a similar design.

I wish companies would stop mucking around with things. From what I can see the NRL app has gone backwards this year. How do you see what people have tipped when the game is underway?

Old Scaley reacted to Rebel in Toowoon Bay Central Coast NSW fRIDAY.
Hi All.
Arrived about an hour before low tide. Cloudy & some rain. Had the place to myself, which is great.
Bit quite to start. First up a nice bream. My puppy will be happy, loves bream.
Then a nice whiting
Five more whiting. That was enough, for the family weekend BBQ.
Bait was beach worms. Tried my new Okuma Ceymar 3000 reel. Very smooth.
Off to the Norah Head coffee shop for breakfast. Another top spot.
Cheers.

Old Scaley got a reaction from burger in Neap tide thinking
Same way I approach all other tides @Bretto77 Just get out when wind and weather allow and if you brain the fish it is a bonus.

Old Scaley reacted to Huxstang in fishing goals for 2024
Fingers crossed I am working on one of my goals tomorrow. Wind is supposedly easing so launching at Cleveland and have a look at Peel area for first time. The artificial and reefs around the western side and lazaret. But if its not too windy/choppy will look at Harry’s
However I am 2 down on my goals….got my first jew on a vibe last month and reckon I am about 50% there on using Livescope. Bought a new zero degree mount so should be a lot more accurate with casting at what we see now.
