  1. Ir you are talking about the ponds on the left of valley way just before the shopping village they are no fishing courtesy of the progressive redlands council. Cheers Ray That's news to me, been a while since I was there last.
  2. Gould Adam's Park and further upstream throughout Scrubby Creek does well. Tygum Lagoon, Waterford West Paradise Rd, Algester Bohemia Ct, Mt. Cotton Regency Park, Browns Stains
  3. Mad Alvey bro. What rod and brand of bread did youse?
  4. a drag net lol. if it's low light morning i will usually slow roll with a high rod tip and mix in a pause depending on action. will work sub surface as the sun rises then switch over to something else.
  5. Not new gear by any means, but I have a couple of must haves in my tray when going fishing. This is my second in line and has accounted for a few jacks, bream, bass, trevally, tarpon and many more species. Product: Megabass Anthrax Type: Hardbody Preferred Colour Thus Far: Natural colours, however they all work really. I've found action and technique to be more of a deciding factor than colour. Price: ~$40 but can be had for cheaper in bulk online purchases. Quality: Paint job has improved with the 2nd generation. Action: Top water and sub surface. The Anthrax is a pretty unique lure in that it's intentionally retrieved upside down to mimic an injured bait fish. This leads to some spectacular and very aggressive hits, especially from even small bass which are not shy in hitting such a large lure. Jacks have also made a mess of some of my hooks. The small one I have is actually an older model with a fixed anal fin (which sits out of the water), the paint job on these older models are good but don't last long with continued punishment and will wear over time with ultra sharp hooks. The newer versions have a more durable paint job and hinged fin which rocks side to side which I noted to give the lure a wider action. Top water and sub surface action can be influenced by either retrieving with a high or low rod tip respectively. I've found it to be most effective very slow rolled to allow the audible inner ball bearing to rock from side to side with pauses to mix it up. The lure can also be twitched erratically jerk bait style. The beauty of the these lures and the Dog-X series, is that I have found the lure will actually rest tail heavy. The importance of this is that when you fire in a cast into a snag (or throw in a pause) the lure will actually 'reverse' about 10 mm or so which technically allows you to cover more ground and may entice the fish for a quick strike. Since many fish hit most lures (whether plastics or hardbodies) on the pause. One thing I have noticed is this lure begins it's intended action from the very first crank of the handle, other imitations I've used require a bit of momentum (i.e. 5-10 cm) before doing so. This is crucial especially if you are fishing tight snags or have a very small strike zone and you want that lure action working straight away. Pros: Versatile lure that is good for a beginner to get into surface fishing but also has scope for an advanced angler, ultra sharp hooks as standard make for excellent hook penetration, well balanced, can be worked very slow and well designed. Cons: Expensive, good paint design but poor durability in older versions, thin hooks don't last long with jacks. Like with most surface lures the hook up rate can be relatively low, but I find that is due to short striking than the lure itself.
  6. Good idea Gus, although I think this thread only has merit provided that contributors are upfront with their association with a brand. There are obviously a number of people lucky enough and talented enough to have their work published, receive a discount/free gear, etc. or be actively involved in the sale of gears/lures.
  7. Chris, what's your tank setup like? I carry two 25L tanks and will bring a 10L/20L jerry can depending. I'll go until the first 25L is gone then I know I'm at my half way point in terms of range (point of return). Switch over to the second tank and start making my way home. This is a simple way of monitoring usage without using a fuel gauge or guessing how much you have left in the tank
  8. You should do it easily if you launch around the Brisbane River mouth or Nudgee area. I have a 4.2 with 40HP 2 stroke and just under 50L to get from Fisherman's Island to Moreton Island and back on a fairly average day (this also included going up to Tangas and chasing the tuna for a few hours). A bit of chop will obviously throw those figures out but you are well within your range.
  9. Just tried to look for my brass drifts this morning and they've gone missing
  10. I'm currently looking around at doing a tafe course Daveylad, still contemplating on tig, mig or arc at the moment. I may get back to you on that thanks! Greg you weld a bead on the inside of the race and it'll cool and contract the race allowing it to simply fall out easier.
  11. this i can help you with greggles, i'm due to repack mine but i'll be damn hitting the races out. hence another reason why i need to learn how to weld. does anyone have an easier way?
  12. haha booty, thanks for the reminder. will wait for the thread bump next year to remind me to do them again.
  13. some good figures there mick, really puts it into perspective. not to mention the sponge and hose after a big trip.
  14. good stuff mick, hopefully they'll read this thread and become better person for it. i think a lot of non-boaters don't realise the cost and labour involved in maintenance. my recent decky (wont name him but see previous monduran thread) had to be confronted before apologising and even then had the nerve to justify their actions ( "sorry, but...." just doesn't cut it, that's no way to apologise). needless to say they won't find themselves welcome anymore. don't stop that from giving out decky spots to those people, however if you've been ousted make a concerted effort to pay/offer appreciation for the privilege of being on someone's boat. if you've messed up, a simple and genuine apology shows what kind of person you are. cheers eug
  15. I think this is worthy of a bump as there are quite a lot of new people on AFO and very generous blokes willing to share a spot on their boat. This topic recently came up between Tina and I. For me I'm usually not too fussed for fuel as I am usually going out anyway, but usually I make things clear that I like a bit of help cleaning and unloading. Quite often everyone is tired and in dire need of a shower, especially after a big trip but the more that help the quicker it gets done.
  16. sorry for the bump. i'd like to say thanks for the photos, it's all fairly straight forward once you think about it. those bearing retainers are a pain to get out, surely there must be an easier method?? i'm on the hunt for some emery paper, picked up a spare hub and 3 sets of bearings for the spare wheel. cheers again eug
  17. yeah man, nailed him the same weekend you did i think. caught off moreton so mine wasn't as nice and red as yours was. measured 39cm and was damn tasty - one of the best eating fish i've ever had. actually caught him on a tiny pike fillet, he snagged me good on his initial run as i wasn't expecting a jack. maintained pressure on him and as soon as i got a bit of give i skull dragged him outta here. 1-3kg rod 6lb braid with 10lb fluro the leader was frayed for about a meter was lucky to get him up actually! here's the pic, just let me know if it contravenes with the rules. it's not blacked out or anything, just blurred.
  18. if i get the go ahead to blur out the guy's face i can post the picture up, it's fkn massive. i'd say around the same as the one in that AFO member's avatar a little while back.
  19. i've never caught one myself, but hoping to do so come BRC. i was just emailed a picture of what is "apparently" a 15kg threadfin. this thing is huge, i don't know the angler and the email was passed through a mutual friend. here's an attached pic. have another pic but has the angler's face (which is actually a better pic as you have the guy's body as comparison), but i don't think they'd be too happy if i posted their mug without their consent and i know how the forum frowns upon edited images. edit: the fish was caught quite a few months ago.
