  2. updated. good lord team North are getting smashed right now
  3. updated everyone. good to see the score board tick over. the bream seems to be hotly contested this year. 32cm as the current 3rd place is still a great fish. will need to beat big fish to take over first place now.
  4. updated. well done @Neil Stratford that mackerel head is still points! haha great entry
  5. certainly was mate! could think of worse things to be doing on a Sunday morning
  6. do they actually release fingerlings at YC? or have i read that wrong
  7. Hey team, soaked some live worms from Tackle World Lawnton at Youngs crossing yesterday. Had a bit of interest with one bass hooked. poor think put up very little fight and was probably the skinniest bass i think I've seen. must not be a whole lot of food for the bass at Youngs crossing. Good to get another entry for the might Team North. although at only 38cm I'm sure it wont last long on the leader board.
  8. well done @benno573, good entries for team North. unlucky @Kat being knocked off the board for emperor! all entries and leader board updated

  12. no you were right the first time. While this comp is on, we dont deal with those weird southerners. ive spent the past few nights sneaking into their houses and rubbing sand paper all over their leaders. Australian cricket style
  13. UNIQUE ITEM : GREEN. it can be the word, or a green item. Must be easily recognisable as green. No, grass does not count I will update this as often as i can. Please only submit any competition entries on this topic For comp rules and details, see the below topic.
  14. nice one we went out yesterday, i only boated one very small flathead. thats fishing!

  16. @GregOug not a bad idea. Maybe emperor as one, and tuskies as another category??
  17. SUBURBS OF ORIGIN 22/23! 18/11/2022 - 15/01/2023 Seems like the majority of people want the comp extended, so that's exactly what is happening. although it might seem like long time to run, but this gives everyone a great chance to add to their teams scoreboard. the more entries, the better! Also, the comp starts in under 2 weeks, so get planning folks. This is the 6th time this comp is being run and still seems pretty popular which is great! Lots of good banter so far, and will sure to be lots more over the coming months. Leader board from over the years has Team South in a commanding position with 4 wins to 1. Poor Team North seems to be lacking numbers again this year, but who doesn't love a good underdog story! Apologies for the long post, but there is a bit of info to cover 2016 - Team South 2017 - Team South 2018 - Team North 2020 - Team South 21/22 - Team South So i haven't made any changes from last year in terms of species or scoring system. Instead of having one winner per category, there will be a 1st, 2nd and 3rd place for each fish species. Each place will have a corresponding score. 1st (3 points) 2nd (2 points) 3rd (1 point). For either team North or South to win, they will need to have scored the most points overall. Make sense? In the off chance that two identical length fish are caught, then all anglers who catch that exact same sized fish species will be awarded the same point. Eg: two people catch a bream that is 35cm which is the joint biggest fish. Both angles will score 1st/ 3 points (of course, this only applies when a Team North and team South anglers catch the same sized fish). So the same team cannot share and double up on points for any given place. Ideally, the measurement should be down to the mm, but that is not always the case as not everyone has a brag mat that goes down to the mm. ill be running an up to date scoreboard on the leader board topic. SPECIES LISTYellowfin Bream, Australian Bass, Mangrove Jack, Whiting, Flathead, Snapper, Mulloway or Teraglin (Jew), Threadfin Salmon, Golden Perch (yellow belly), Tailor, Tuna, Mackerel, Cod (any type freshwater or salt), Trevally (any type) and Shark (i will allow shovel nose in this category), emperor species and tusk fish species In years gone by, this has always been a free event which is still the case, the bragging rights are enough of a prize for some! However, I’ve decided to give the winners an opportunity to have a trophy to show off their win…let me explain this a bit further. There is a trophy available to each species category winner and will say something like “SUBURBS OF ORIGIN 22/23 – BREAM 1st Place – Joe Bloggs”. Up to the winner if they want their name or not on the trophy. For the winning team, there is also the opportunity to have a “SUBURBS OF ORIGIN 22/23 Summer Slam CHAMPIONS – TEAM NORTH” which will be available to anyone on the winning team who wants one regardless if you catch any fish or not as this is a team based event. The trophy will probably look like this below (tbc and finalised at the end of the comp) 14cm tall, and the cost of it will need to be paid for by the winning angler who wants one. Completely up to each individual, if bragging rights are enough then that’s cool too. I figured the chance at winning a trophy might bring out the competitive streak in people! Cost will be around $10-$20 for the trophy plus postage (or pickup if that’s easier). I’ll be the contact to organise this at the end of the comp. To keep it fair, the night before the opening day of fishing, a unique symbol/object will be released that must be pictured with the catch. Submissions can be made online in the topic that I will create to keep a up to date leader board for all to see (topic will be called “SUBURBS OF ORIGIN 22/23 LEADER BOARD” and will be created closer to the event start). Each time a new longest species is caught, I will update the original post to let everyone know what Team is in front and who is winning each category. The unique symbol will be as easy as writing/drawing on a piece of paper (or a hand signal) or an object, which can be easily placed next to the fish. Fish where you want, just because you’re a Team North member doesn’t mean that you have to fish North of the Brisbane river and vice versa. Team lists below. I've just copy and pasted last years teams. If you've changed, or aren't below just let me know and ill update Team North @christophagus@Jono4500@Tuna are fish@Angry51@benno573@Matt83@GregOug@Ed. Team South @Allnighter @ellicat @Neil Stratford@AUS-BNE-FISHO@tugger@kmcrosby78@Drop Bear@rayke1938@Old Scaley@Junky@Kat@Breaming with bro @TheCharliefisho@Thorbjorn Hale HOW TO SUBMIT AN ENTRY To submit a entry, you will need a photo of the fish on a brag mat or some form of measuring device that clearly displays the length of the fish along with the unique symbol/object. This entry must be uploaded to the topic “SUBURBS OF ORIGIN 22/23 LEADER BOARD” before 8pm on the final day of the competition. Even if you catch a fish that isn’t as big as the top 3 fish already submitted, feel free to post it up anyway as it would be great to see how everyone is going regardless. Non legal fish will be accepted...meaning fish that are not of a legal length (fish that are under or over legal length as defined by the state you are fishing in) Just ensure that any non-legal fish are released safely. The more anglers involved the better! This competition isn’t designed to push us against each other, but to just get some friendly banter going among this awesome community that we have going here on AFO. The gauntlet has been thrown down! Who is keen? To nominate what team you are on, just comment on this post and I will add your name to the below list To keep it plain and simple, if you live North of the Brisbane river, you are Team North If you live South of the Brisbane river, you are Team South It’s not about where you were born, just about where you live now Also important to note, if we could please only use the leader board topic for competition submissions. For any banter or general chat, just use this topic. Just helps me monitor the comp submissions easier Unique item : GREEN. it can be the word, or a green item. Must be easily recognisable as green
  18. agreed. i dont think people take this seriously enough. When i bream fish in the canals, i don't even use any weight. just a gomagatsu weedless worm hook through the soft plastic. the weight of the plastic and hook alone is enough
  19. That looks like a typo What you were meant to say was “dirty southsider, you’ve got no shot!”
