  1. ask any commercial fisherman, they will agree with you. they stalk pro crab boats and literally sit under the boat waiting for all the underasized crabs to be thrown back in with an open mouth. there was some footage last year of a trawler with hundreds of sharks around it. ive fished Fraser on charter and the sharks were so thick you couldnt keep a hooked fish on for longer than 10 seconds without sharks smashing it. fast way to loose jigs. just wonder if commercial sharking of bigger than 1.5m would have an imapact on controlling the numbers or not.
  2. much like the kayaing launching facilities around seq, id imagine a thorough hose would do the trick. leaving your gear out in the sun would probably help too
  3. general rule of thumb is to try and match the lure colour to the water colour. eg dont use a white lure in muddy waters. a good trick is to watch professionals fishing your area on youtube. often they will talk about the gear they use. ill try and find some for you, should be loads for the goldy
  4. id be more inclined to combine with jew again rather than eliminate
  5. the hard part with under or oversized fish is the fact that this comp is now bigger than just QLD. different rules for different states. i feel like jacks, threadfin could be replaced with an emperor category and a parrot/tusk fish category. i mean you could have an endless list of fish categories, but that just doesn't feel right for the comp. i don't think a jack has ever been submitted and only one threadfin has even been submitted from memory. One year i just had a combined threadfin/jew category.
  6. just goes to show how dangerous a tiny amount of slack line can be. was only a split second and the hook fell out. such a shame. at least you got to see it, nothing worse than losing a fish to never see it and forever wonder what it was
  7. yeah that would work Should also mention that ill place trophy order end of next week.
  8. agreed. keen to also drop jacks. i dont think anyone has ever entered one
  9. Well everyone, the competition has finally come to an end with Team South remaining the champions. Well done to all who entered and had a fish. Below are the results with Team South winning 45-28. Like last time, im happy to organise any trophies if you'd like one. You just need to cover the cost and shipping (https://www.trophyshop.com.au/catalogsearch/result/?q=fish) prices are here for the trophies, shipping will be $10. Just PM me if you would like one. It will say "AUSTRALIAN FISHING ONLINE SUBURBS OF ORIGIN 21/22 Summer Slam Bream Champion 1'st or 2'nd place" plus your username or real name. Just message me and we will iron out the finer details. otherwise thanks again everyone who took part, Team North are coming for you next time!!!!
  10. And that’s it folks! I’ll do a double check tomorrow to make sure I’ve not missed anything and tally the scores once more. I’ll put up a results topic tomorrow as well. Thanks everyone for getting involved!
  11. thats a monster journey. Moreton bay can turn nasty really really quickly. If youre really keen on chasing some better fish, go offshore from the sunshine coast. you dont need to go far to reach some great fishing ground that hold loads of reef fish and pelagics too.
  12. Polydactylus macrochir or Polydactylus plebeius lol has to be on of the most debated topics among seq fishos on facebook and forums i reckon
  13. should we start the heated debate on the ID of that fish? not a putty nose perch? lol
  14. all up to date now. seems like the North are smashed again this year.
  15. 1. Will it make fishing easier? 2. Will the amount of use it gets justify the expense I've just bought a 2500 baitrunner just for shark fishing (and for live baiting for flathead in the future. While you can just tighten the drag on a regular reel, i find that it can be a little clunky sometimes and have even lost fish due to playing with the drag tbh. i did actually find it very very handy when we had all 3 lines go at once last time i was out. i was able to just click 2 buttons and the drag set so i could fight the 1st fish. without them, i might have lost alot of line. Honestly, i think once you use it and hook a few fish, you will see how easy it is and you'll love it.
  16. 78 is a cracking fish. they can be caught at all times of day. although i do prefer morning and late afternoon
  17. how long is a piece of string... my go to is a zman 3 inch minnowz in electric chicken 100mm squidgee wriggler in bloodworm is also good. i like to fish for them on the flats where there are drop offs into deeper water. for the sunny coast, golden beach is a great spot for that.
  18. Howdy all no upgrades for the North. Had hoped for some big bream and a few cod. Was a tough mornings fishing, no cod and struggled to set a hook. Only managed 2 bream at 29 and 27cm. Both caught on an ecogear beam prawn. Had lots of tentative hits, the bream were just really easily spooked FullSizeRender.mov
  19. A legal snapper land based would be a great catch, probably somewhat rare too. I’d suggest the Redcliffe peninsula, lots of reef close to shore at a lot of spots
  20. Agreed! Yep, cod is on the list. Fresh or salt versions.
  21. That’s the spirit mate. Get out there and get amongst it! If there is one thing kids have taught me, is to make use of the time when you have it. I only wet a line 3 times last year
