  1. fish over the side are always fish to be shared. Im beginning to think that my deckies up here are getting the better end of that deal. Seriously get annoyed when the deckys stop fishing or start sleeping on the front cast deck, meanwhile everything i pull over the side im only eating 1/3 of hahahaha well try and get you a cattle dog cod when you come up, the pro i went line fishing with told me * when you catch cattle dog cod you know you are on virgin ground* ( ground thats not been fished in a lonnnng time)
  2. Hi Guys, Having moved around a bit in Queensland with a boat on the back I've managed to amass a fair number of fishing marks that now stretch a fair chunk of the north QLD coastline, so if any members are on holidays in between the South and North point in the below picture and are towing a boat, i may be able to help with locations. I also may not, but if you are genuinely towing a boat with you and coming up to North Queensland sing out and i shall try my best to help. Tight lines.
  3. Hi Guys, sadly im on call over Easter this year, but i suppose whats even more sad is that fact its blowing 25kn on the reef so no-one else can go fishing and make me jelous hahahaha So i decided to go for a sneaky little fish in a spot close to home, an old quarry, overgrown and pretty dense vegitation around it so im not sure how many people are fishing it, maybe a few maybe none!! But last night showed me you really never know what's on your doorstep until you put your boots on and have a little look, this JP absolutely inhaled a zerek Prawn that my mate was fishing and took off like a barra, went 48cms and released so I can catch it when its 50CM and he can do the camera work !!! TIght lines!
  4. Hi guys, abit of a late report, haven't been in the swing the past few months of logging into AFO, but it crossed my mind so I thought id throw up a report. For those of you who have been around a while you'll remember the old 'Noosa Fishing Shack' and the awesome hospitality afforded to us all my the man himself Greg Carter. We'll its crazy how the world goes around, i've always kept a great friendship with Greg having lived close to him on the sunshine coast for 5 years but having moved up to Cairns, Greg finds himeself up here for work more and more and besides drinking a lot of Bourbon together we've been getting out for a fish a bit lately. No anyone know knows Greg knows fishing runs through his veins and he's never far away from where there biting, so now with me having the keys to the boat and the wheel at my hand the pressure is on to find the fish. This particular day we had planned to go out wide and chase red emporer and trout, ( as a side note, i've got Tugger coming up mid year and i'm starting to feel the heat on finding reliable patches of red emperor so this was a kind of reconnaissance trip too) We left Cairns at a casual 3am out through the lead markers knowing in the back of our mind that we were heading out into 13kn. Now that doesn't sound bad but up here its a shorter sharper wind chop so its wet in my boat. Once we had got out round the point it got wet,,, but not cold!!! 65kms later and still in the dark we started dropping baits and the fish started to come over the side. Unfortunately not the reds i was looking for but i found some marks that on better tides will definitely hold the prize species. So here's the question, Greg hooks up a great fish, fights it out of 65M to about 8M under the boat and looses it, 5 mins later theres a big cattle dog cod floating on the surface 20M from the boat, he asks why we are throwing cod back and i jump up and down and realise his fish he lost has got barra trauma and floated to the surface, I manover the electric motor over to the fish and lift it into the boat, WHOS FISH IS THIS?? Heres a few pictures of the trip SAFE FISHING ALL, TIGHT LINES

  8. Hi guys been a little while between posting but the weather has not been to flash up in Cairns as of late. I say a result of that I had some time to think about my boat and my setup and decided to advertise my Fisher has an expression of interest to see what it would Fetch Well unintentionally sold in 4 days so I had to move fast to secure the new boat which I'm extremely happy about It's a 2050 Stabicraft Frontier with a 150 Yamaha pushing 65 km an hour in 15 knots of wind I should be able to bring more Reef reports and photos from up here with this new weapon Couple of puctures for your viewing pleasure

  13. Theres a 4.8 fisher ext which is mine. Its 5.4 overall steep dead rise punches hard through the chop and will float on 400mm in the rivers. The other is an 8m home build tri hull with a diesel inboard. Beast of a boat
  14. Hi guys And month also ago when the weather was her you windy up here for long period i know decided to get into hiking the rainforest creek in search of jungle perch. I have been fishing around the tully gorge and mission beach area mostly but some of the fish have come from creeks around cape tribulation I usually always start with surface lures as its just so much fun !! The nordix stage dynamic 6ft is the rof for the tight country. Love it so much. ANGUS YOU GOT ANYMORE?? Enjoy the pics Callum
  15. Hi guys, been a while between posts and as such life moves on. Moved up to Port Douglas and bougbt a good boat suitable for the reef and the rivers. The weather came good this week, so I managed to get out to the reef three times. Ill never get sick of the sunrises across a glass ocean with the anticipation of what tastey fish is going to jump on!!
  16. Hi guys, been a long time between drinks here on the forum, have been busy fishing and diving around the place. thought id start to throw a few reports up on here. Have had a mad few months moving house, travelling and fishing all over the place but ill start with a little session I had in Airlie beach. This was mainly a bait collection mission to collect a few barra baits, everyone in FNQ knows how tastey a snake head gudgeon / mud cod is to a big barra, so what better way to spend an afternoon in Airlie beach than with my head burried into my phone on google maps, searching for a likely creek that might hold a few. Didn't take me long on satalite view to find a few small pockets of water and away I went. I chose to take a 6ft Nordic stage dynamic F1 in 10lb with a 2000 caldia, anyone whos been around these forums for a while will remember the craze with Angus and Henry with the Nordic stage rods, and I still rate these small light rods very highly for fishing small creeks and native species. I managed to find a good few of these awesome coloured fish in a few decent sized pools in the heart of Airlie beach, stay tuned to see the results when they get rigged up under a balloon and floated into a barra lair.!!! tight lines for now! Callum Im not too sure how to upload videos, I must have forgotten as its been a while since posting here but ill work it out again soon.
  17. Ill be practising social distancing, drinking corona and making a pain in the ass of myself! Might throw a line in too since food is becoming a rarety
  18. Can be great bait offshore, find them abit hit n miss I wouldn't say using them Would improve your hit rate over a smelly pilly as for eating, some people eat them fresh but a lot don't rate them! Callum
  19. hey dude, my partners auntie runs calypso holiday park down in Yamba and they also run woody head camping park too so we get down there a bit to fish, ive had good success on plastics fishing the middle wall, got 3 good jew from the kayak there last time we were down, there is a pretty strong rip when the tides going out but its definitely worth fishing, you'll see a-lot of folk fishing it. im clueless of the ofshore stuff though haha have a good time mate, lots of holiday snaps for a good report!! nice rig too,, oh yeah one last thing, my partners dad had an awesome 6M boat stolen off the Calypso Caravan Park Pontoon so be safety conscious! callum
