  1. Don't expect it to fish like Fraser and you'll be fine. Headlands are a good chance for a snapper at low light and pelagics (tuna and mackerel) during the day. The jew seem to turn up with the tailor but it has been blowing foul for months here so anything can happen. Benno's trip reports are up there with the best for info, images and intestinal fortitude (camping with kids!) so read and enjoy them. Look forward to hearing how you go @Tim Foster
  2. This is our opportunity to have a say - i encourage everyone to at least read the proposal
  3. I am sorry for hijacking your thread Ted. I will edit accordingly. I look forward to seeing your future posts
  4. Unreel effort there @crazywalrus it’s one thing to swing some fillets to your neighbours but putting them on to trophy fish… wish I lived next to you!
  5. I’m trying to imagine the feeling of victory when a fish of that calibre hits the net. In surfing, the best waves are often the ones where you think you have no chance of making them. But when you do….
  6. I don’t really have any theories but like the others I’ll fish places with lots of current on the neaps and avoid them on springs. So more about fish ability than knowing fish will bite. putting my science hat on I know there are interactions between tide and moon phase which are difficult to untangle, but fish and crustaceans display different activity levels depending upon moon phase.
  7. When i was researching for an electric everything pointed towards Minn Kota - performance, durability, spot lock accuracy. it was the most expensive but it has been 3 years and not one problem yet. The new owner of my boat (my brother) has used it at least once a week for the last 12 months (sometimes 3 times a week!) and it has never skipped a beat. All electric motors are subject to some pretty rough treatment being on the front of your boat doused in saltwater - i have heard the Watersnakes and Motorguides tend to have more issues than the MK. If you are on a budget look at transom mounting a trolling motor - that would be the cheapest option (but no spot lock capability) Remember you will need to pay for suitable AGM battery, wiring/andersen plug/fuses and potentially a mount for the electric and battery which can add up. There are a couple of threads on here about electric installs and issues. Good luck!
  8. Hi guys and gals, I watched this video on YT and found it very informative and interesting. Thought i would share! link to rod factory tour Andrew
  9. Running a tally for 2024 Fishing: 1 Surfing: 0 Got a couple of fish in the shallows on the weekend with my bro. Nothing to write home about but good to get out nonetheless - last trip was early november. All on light gear and plastics. Aiming for a surf soon but not sure when with this whirlygig spinning around up north!
  10. @Hweebe if there are SMART goals then there must be DUMB goals? Definitely Underachieve Maximise Buffoonery Apologies So Sorry
  11. @Emerald Here is a trion 701xf for sale. 1 piece 3-6kg
  12. Did have a squadron of spotties fly through me in the surf at kawana one day. Thankfully they were chasing bait not being chased!
  13. Wow Ted I’m glad I clicked on the links to your Facebook photos! Some really great fish there - lots of firsts and lots of variety! Love the jobbies and cattle dog cods I once had a filleter in a fish shop tell me her fave fish to eat were Robinsons sea bream can you report on its eating quality? your boat looks like a fishing weapon and I’d hate to see your catches when you actually “figure it out”!
  14. Way to kill a thread Andrew! perhaps I should rephrase.. In 2024 I aim to balance the surfing : fishing ratio. I used to surf a lot more. Some years it was most days. In 2023 I surfed once in the entire year and fished about once a month. So in 2024 I am aiming to surf as much as I fish. I’d be happy with 6 surfs to 6 fishes (1:1 ratio) around work and family commitments hence the “fish less” line. there are many great things about pretending to adult, but alas some of the things you did lots as a youngun have to give!
  15. Should be plenty of options staying on plantation. If not try Fiji Surf Co they will troll you around for a mahi mahi, wahoo or tuna. the namotu guys have a boat called Cobalt that do a range of fishing but super dooper expensive
  16. Yeah mate I bought the pe 1-2 I saw the 0.8-1.5 but couldn’t justify it! Samurai have high quality blanks and Fuji components (same company). Will pair with a ocea jigger 1500 and pe2 to jig for trout at the reef. Funstick!
  17. I moseyed into TW too and picked up a Samurai extracta jigging rod for $200. Titanium guides on it woulda cost me about that if I was building it myself!
  18. Nibble tips are my tip! Live yabbies and worms work well for sand whiting. Anchor up and fish the edges of banks. Should be a chance of some bycatch using live yabbies. Enjoy!
  19. And if you want to get the Nissan home take a Toyota!
  20. im in the market for similar and ive seen a few for sale on this side of the country. i think the hulls are imported by Haines and fitted out here rather than made here (but i could be wrong). i did a bit of googling and the SCB (not sure whether they are affiliated or not but similar production method for their hulls) in the US have had lots of trouble with their hulls cracking - so not sure that the technology will withstand Australian conditions. Id hate to drop coin on a fibreglass boat and have to nurse it like a pressed tinny! Never ridden in one but so cannot give a definitive review - id be interested to hear from anyone that has owned/ ridden in one!
  21. Sounds like crisis averted Ed! I'd have sold the Jeep after the first trip (actually i would never have bought a Jeep in the first place!). If you get to the Daintree go check out the Daintree Ice Cream Company in Diwan. The ice cream is handmade on site and the girls in the shop are friendly. Its cool to walk around the exotic fruit trees and if Daintree Dave is there ask if he can show you his cocoa and vanilla plants. Disclaimer: Daintree Dave may/may not be my brother in law (fishing tragic too) Andrew
