  1. Thanks Steve. Thanks @Huxstang, sounds like a quiet day but livescoping would still be very fun! Thanks Neil. No worries manga, sounds like your session was still pretty successful, have you ever tried upstream of the city in the river?
  2. Welcome to the forum. I would recommend Penn Prevails as I have a couple of mates who have them and they rate them highly, the 9’6 is supposed to cast very well with heavier lures.
  3. Thank you Brian, and somehow I completely forgot about the comp in the moment, I specifically tried to remember it that morning Cheers Rebel.
  4. Hi all, I was on a holiday down in Victoria for a week (went for one fish for trout but no luck) and got back last Thursday around midnight. Decided to have a rest on Friday but Saturday morning @Cavvy and I tried a spot on our kayak. We launched at about 5am and arrived at the spot by quarter past, just before the sun rose. We spent the next four hours flicking some shallow diving hardbodies around but unfortunately, we did not catch any threadfin. There was plenty of bait jumping but I guess the fish weren't hungry, so we will have to get them next time. Stats of Trip: Tide: 9:30AM, .6M, Low. Moon Phase: 25% Lures Used: Zerek Pyra and Megabass Oneten R Air Pressure: 1015 Humidity: 83% Overall Success Rate: 30% - first session on the river this holidays The next session was today with @Thorbjorn Hale at The Port, on Thorbjorn's tinny. We launched at around 9am from a very crowded POB boat ramp, and after we got away first thing on the agenda was catching some livies. It wasn't long before we had a fair few mullets gathered so we went out to the wharves and started fishing. It was awesome weather, and it was quite flat for as far as I could see. On my first cast my live mullet remained untouched for a fair amount of time before line started screaming off of my reel. Thorbjorn picked up my rod while I wound in my soft vibe and the fish took a good run. I started the fight and the fish was taking some decent runs and had some good headshakes. It wasn't long before I had a nice 60cm or so snapper on the deck of the boat, which we were both happy with (and I was regretting not buying some ice for the esky). After a quick photo we released the snapper and got lines back out. Snap Following this, we each caught a decent sized stingray, but after that the bite went very quiet, so we decided to go and chase some livies at the Poo Chute and try again. We were successful with the herring (despite my substandard cast netting), but back at the spot we couldn't lose a bait, apart from Thorbjorn catching a small shovelly. We moved again, and at this spot we each pulled in a catty, which wasn't a great sign. As we were moving though, we noticed a boat was hooked up to a decent fish. We waited until we saw it, and sure enough the gold of a thready emerged, so it was good to see someone was having some success on the soft vibes. We chased a bit more live bait which was fun and had a quick rest before anchoring on the edge of the main channel around the Clara Rock area. Unfortunately for us, this didn't equate to any fish, and the only action was a few nibbles and plenty of waves from the Moreton Island boats. At about five, we decided to call it quits and we drove home. Overall, it was a great day with the weather staying flat for basically the entire day, thanks again for taking me out Thorbjorn! Stats of Trip: Tide: 8:15AM, .9M, Low, 1:35Pm, 1.6M, High, 7:15PM, .8M, Low. Moon Phase: 35% Bait Used/Caught: Live mullet, herring, whiting, prawn, silver biddy, anchovy Fish Caught: Snapper, catfish, shovelnose, stingray Lures Used: Soft vibes Air Pressure: 1015-1017 Humidity: 64%-81% Overall Success Rate: 75% - fun day out with a few bites and a new PB snap for me. Anyway, thanks for reading everyone, hope you enjoyed the report. Cheers, Hamish.
  5. Good work Ray, sounds like a good bit of variety.
  6. Looks like a great rod Peter, I would recommend the 1000 or 2000 reel.
  7. Hope next week is better Rebel and that you can get back to the fishing soon.
  8. Sad to see that these have made their way into some waterways, I have seen photos of a couple people catching them.
  9. Great work @Another Wazza. Lots of good fish there.
  10. Great looking rod and great tailor Neil.
  11. I would suggest changing things up, try live baits, lighter weighted baits around structure, lighter line, bigger baits, or soft plastic lures.
  12. Thanks Brian, sounds like a partly successful session in the bay. Melbourne was alright, I think the casino would’ve been more fun than all the shopping I had to do. Thanks for the tips mangajack. My Dad and I were actually fishing there and the two fish we caught were with unweighted baits so it’s good to know some bigger fish can be caught. Ill be up again in Winter but I think I’ll be limited to Double Heads unfortunately instead of Corio Bay because I Won’t have a car. Shame about the dud squid session KM, and yep I’ve packed a rod but so far no luck. Mainly just relaxing this trip though due to the cold weather haha. Fishing license or drivers license? I’ll have my L’s in May so I’m pretty excited about that Ray.
  13. Hi all, I drove up to Yeppoon last Thursday for a quick visit. After arriving late Thursday arvo, my Dad and I decided to go for a fish at the Causeway later that night as there was a run through tide. It was still pretty crowded just before 10, but there weren't any fish getting caught. My Dad and I alternated the lures we were using for the next hour and a half but after no bites we decided to call it quits. The next morning I didn't go fishing, but in the afternoon I went out to Double Heads. Unfortunately, the wind was very strong and the water was a bit brown, so I didn't bother fishing. My Dad and I then went to Ross Creek, where we also caught nothing except a large stingray which my Dad hooked that put up a good fight. The next morning we decided to give the harbor a crack. We caught some livies and tried a couple of spots, and ended up on the rockwall at the mouth of the harbour. We didn't have much success here, but my Dad did hook up to a decent fish (probably a cod) which broke him off in some of the rocks. We were a bit more hopeful about this spot now so decided to try there the next day, because it was still very windy. The next morning we repeated the same thing, where this time my Dad caught an undersize cod. Things were still very quiet and windy though. We also flicked plenty of lures around but no hookups. The next morning we came back to this spot and I caught one bream, so it was also very quiet. A bit unsure what to do to try and get a bite, my Dad and I decided to have a flick with some lures around the harbour later that night, which resulted in nothing except a very long sleep in the next morning. We tried in the harbour again that arvo with some smaller plastics and soft vibes but no bites once again. Overall, although it was a quiet trip, it was still good to try some fishing up in Yeppoon. I'm going to Victoria today so won't be able to fish in the river that much this holidays unfortunately. Cheers, Hamish.
  14. Welcome to the forum Brenton. If you’re in the area I would suggest stopping by Yeppoon for a fish during Winter, you could try trolling around some of the headlands near the Rosslyn Bay Harbour for some mackerel. Otherwise the Fitzroy River would probably be worth a look too.
  15. Good stuff @mangajack. Do you ever see any threadfin feeding under the lights when the tailor are there?
  16. Have a speedy recovery @Rebel
