    Bit of a late reply,but there is a formula that is used to calculate max hp for any boat, according to Australian Standards. AS 1799. Length overall x width of transom at waterline x 16 minus 67 x 1.34. A bit.convoluted I know! With this formula, my 4.3m DeHavilland Tempest can only take 30.9hp, when the builders plate says max hp is 50! I’ve decided to go halfway, 40hp. Maybe a little overpowered, maybe a little underpowered!
