  1. Hi everyone, I have a rock rod and a medium sized estuary rod, however would like a new light tackle setup for targeting flathead and bream on lures, i want to go light so i can really feel the bites, twitch movements of the lure and really have a battle with the fish. I was thinking a 2500 size reel such as a DAIWA TD Black and the matching daiwa td black rod, my budget is probably in the 500-700 dollar range for a full setup including braid, leader and maybe some lures??? depending on price of everything else. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks
  2. So I purchased a new reel for my rod since I haven’t been fishing in a long time 10+ years and my old reel has some corrosion. I purchased a Shimano Miravel C3000HG the other day at BCF took it out of the box this afternoon to put some line on it for this weekend and I was looking at the reel and noticed that the reel has a lot wobble on the spool no idea why I don’t think this is normal to have this much wobble even if you tighten up the drag it still does it and then would probably be too much drag for bream or flathead Is this a faulty reel should I take it back and get them to look at it I don’t know what do you all think about this cheers Rick
  3. I currently have a nice 4-8kg rod from a tackle shop paired with a 2-4kg Shimano sienna 2500 and wanted to replace it with a shimano sienna 4000, but now I have the dilemma of what pound line I should get, I am located in Wollongong, and was thinking of at some point mabye trying to catch mackerel, but usually just Bream and flathead.
  4. So i am about to live in Australia for about half a year around the Perth region and im wondering wich size of the rod and reel i should go for, i have been looking around for a bit now and since i will be traveling around alot i thought i should get a 3piece rod though i know i have lees feeling with one then i would with a 2piece one. and for the reel i was thinking about a 3-4000 one but i dont know wich ones are better for saltwater and rock fishing etc, Thanks!
  5. Hi all, I'm wondering if anyone is looking to sell or give away a 5000-6000 size spinning reel? I've wanted to get one for fishing for threadfin salmon and jewies with livies and/or bigger lures. If anyone is willing to please send me a message and list your price. Thanks!
  6. Hey guys, this is a broad question and I'm sure it gets asked lots; i've currently been using a cheap 6ft telescopic rod/reel combo with spinners/hard plastics/ I need recommendations on a new rod to use for lure fishing. ideally very versatile, I go to the Murray, lake Eildon and out in the bay. I'm thinking 2-4kg and 7ft, looked at the ugly stik gold 2 but after researching it looks like i can do better if i want a rod specifically for lures. Graphite rod ideally? Shimano raiders look alright, just want some suggestions on good new setups/deals on at the moment and whether its worth buying rod/reel separately or better value getting a combo. I'm happy to spend up to $250!
  7. Gday everyone. I used to go fishing with my old man back in the day and I always preferred a lure. My 4 year old got a rod for Christmas so I am going to get back into it with him. I recall my dad buying me a special rod and reel for lures and the reel was a barrel style that sat horizontally and the line came straight off and down the guide rings. I remember having to keep my thumb on it while casting or it would birds nest. Having just been down to the local sporting shop I was surprised to see no reels of this design at all. Is there something inherently wrong with the reel design? I remember thinking it was great. If they still exist does anyone have any experience with them and know what they are actually called Cheers, Cam.
  8. hi all i am getting more and more into my freshawater fishing and am wondering is anyone has any recommendations on baitcaster rod/reel combo or custom my budget would probably be around 100-175 but trying to get a good set up for not too much also if anyone has any lures line or generally tackle that they recommend for a first baitcaster please let me know it would be greatly appreciated, thanks
  9. I'm looking for a small fun combo. I am thinking either a stradic 1000 or 2500 or a vanford 1000 or 2000. What do you guys recommend. Thanks
  10. Hi, i've bought a used Baitrunner, unsure of year, anyone owned any of the old versions of these and can tell me anything about them? Hoping to rebuild the used one i bought and clean it up, Uploaded some photos of what it looks like.
  11. Hi Guys, I've just purchased a kayak and going to be targeting kingfish, small tuna, mackeral, snapper and reef fish. I own a small 2500 combo that I use for bream, flathead and whiting but need a bigger combo for the bigger fish. My budget is around $200-$250aud. I was thinking an ugly stik but need suggestions on the rod and a reel. I was also thinking trying to snag a bargain of facebook marketplace but would prefer brand new. Do you have any suggestions on a rod and reel around $200-250 aud? Thanks Muhammed Zaakir
  12. Finally got around to buying the reel I was talking about in a post a while ago, getting it spooled tomorrow with 300-400 metres of 57ib braid.
  13. Hi everyone Had a question about a setup for shore jigging from the rocks currently I'm using a 4000 stradic sw with 20lb braid and a pe 1-2.5 9'6 rod everything thing I've read says this is a good all round size for shore jigging but the problem is I've been spooled once now and lost several big fish that I just haven't been able to stop so I've decided to go bigger but an 8000 size setup seems to big to cast from shore and I don't know if I'll just face the same problems with a 6000 size setup, or is it just a technique problem? Either way I need help!! Thanks.
  14. G'day AFO, I've inherited an old Alvey 500c1 with a bakelite spool. I've pulled it apart and given it a good clean but cant seem to get the drag pawl to re-engage. Does anyone have one i could borrow to pull apart and see how it works/see if i am missing anything? or have the experience to look at mine and tell me whats wrong? Needs to have the drag clicker and the ratchet (see back plate in image). Cheers Andrew
  15. I purchased a new rod and reel yesterday from bcf. Unsure what's happened, but, when I put it predominantly in reverse keeps getting jammed. Literally first use. Any ideas? Yes I went for my first beach fish yesterday yes there some sand in it but other than that didn't drop the reel, no physical damages on reel I also note it's happening in reverse and normal whilst in reverse. Doesn't appear to be happening as often in normal mode with spool on but does happen. Anyone have Any ideas? 20220417_155120.mp4
  16. Hi All i have a brand new Penn Clash 2 where the bail won’t open in a certain position. Opens in all other positions of the 360 deg rotation except one which is the bail pointing left 90deg to rod. It will open about 90% of the way but won’t click to stay open unless I move the position slightly. Seems odd to me, should open at any position, yeh? Anyone have any experience with this problem with the Penny or another reel? cheers

  21. Would anyone have any recommendations? It's come to my attention that the roller on a second hand reel I bought (daiwa fuego LT2000D) is no good. Would prefer not to have to send it away, though will if I have to. Cheers Matt.
  22. Looking for 2pc 6-7’3 graphite rod that’s gonna go well with a 5000 size shimano spooled with 300m of 20lb/PE 1.7 braid. Not really sure what I’m gonna be using this setup for all I know so far is it’s mainly going to be a boat rod and maybe every blue moon a light landbased game rod. This setup is mainly going to be used offshore mid nsw anywhere from port stevens to Coffs Harbour . So basically 1 looking for a new rod need suggestions 2 need any good advice I can get about ocean/offshore fishing 3 need any good advice on lure choice fishing methods , speices and any other helpful information I can get . thanks

  25. less then a week ago I won a eBay auction and got a shimano stradic ci4+FB 2500 second hand with a full spool of decent 12lb braid for $195 reel is in great condition smooth and light weight. I took the reel apart last night to remove a little excess grease as it was serviced by shimano before being sold on the eBay auction.reel is running nice and smooth now other then that I’ve given it a good wipe down and got rid of any dust I could find on and inside the reel also I stripped about the first 2 metres of braid off that reel as that first 2 metres was damaged the rest is in good condition Gave the braid a coating in silicone spray and it’s ready to fish . Awesome reel will be matching it up with a atomic arrows estuary 3-5kg 2pc when I get that rod although the reel is light enough to use on my bream surface so I might give it a test run on the bream surface .when I get the arrows estuary the reel will be mainly used for flathead tailor snapper
