  1. I went camping at Teewah Beach chasing the usual Bream and Whiting and I did land a 61cm Snub Nosed Dart on the last trip on 9lb mono. This time beefed up to 25lb braid as we had other bust offs and we landed 3 of them over 2 nights. First one went 76cm, second went 91cm and I managed to land a 104cm that went 12.1kgs! It was a 20min fight and my arms were sore by the end of it! All were released. Just wondering how big these suckers get?
  2. 20220417_155120.mp4 20220417_155120.mp4 I purchased a new rod and reel yesterday from bcf. Unsure what's happened, but, when I put it predominantly in reverse keeps getting jammed. Literally first use. Any ideas? Yes I went for my first beach fish yesterday yes there some sand in it but other than that didn't drop the reel didn't kick it nothing. 20220417_162348.mp4 20220417_155120.mp4
  3. Hi Peeps, I purchased a Daiwa 12 inch crossfire and Revros 6000 I was informed that this can be used on the beach. I was given 30 lb line and 20 lb leader. Friend of mine is saying to return reel and grab Sedona 8000FI. I don't know my chances of returning but I'll love some input if I've gotten the wrong set up etc?

  7. Hey everyone! long time reader, first time poster here I’m still learning the ropes with land based and surf fishing. For the past year I’ve been fishing off Shorncliffe pier, up to Margate beach and Woody Point just about every weekend. Ive had some great fun, catching an array of species- Mostly Bream, and flathead. More special, or unusual catches off Margate being - 2 large octopus (about 1.5-2kgs), a small shovelnose shark (40cm), and a Gummy (?) shark (70cm) off the Shorncliffe pier. caught all of these off a cheap 6ft combo from BCF, But have recently added a large surf combo to my load out in hopes to chase something bigger/different. recently had a crack up at Woorim beach off bribie, beautiful beach but the swell and wind was a bit too chaotic that night. Managed to land a 70cm flathead which was awesome (not the flathead pictured below, we let her go) but nothing after that. I was wondering if you guys have any tips about surf fishing in the North Brisbane, what baits to use, and what (bigger) species I can target off the beach? nothing wrong with whiting, flathead and bream, but hoping to chase something new and a heavier hitter. sorry for the long first post but if you read this far, much appreciated!!!
  8. Hi All, Heading to Broome tomorrow (29AUG to 06SEP) so hoping for some land-based fishing tips. Disappointing to hear only 180m of the 640m of the jetty boardwalk is accessible now as I do not have access to a 4WD. Not targeting anything specific just hoping to get out for a fish. Family holiday with a young toddler so hoping to make the most of the limited time fishing I can sneak in. Good fishing spots (?): The Jetty Entrance Point Rocks near the Fishing Club Town Beach Boat Ramp Rock Groyne Gantheaum Point Rocks Cable Beach North of the Rocks Gear I’m taking: 15kg travel rod 5kg travel rod 40-pound hand reel 200-pound hand reel Hoping for any tips or pointers for any of the fishing locations such as suggested bait, recommended lures, best tides (slack water top of the tide?) etc. Thanks in advance.
  9. Hi everyone, Further to my call for fishing guides on the Gold Coast, I now need Guides in the following areas:- Cairns, Mackay, Whitsundays, Rockhampton and inland, Fraser Coast, Sunshine Coast and Brisbane. This is for casual beach fishing guides available to take 1-4 tourist beach fishing with min 48 hours notice. You will need to be a knowledgeable fisherman/woman, have a good personality and be patient enough to help guests throw a line in at the beach. The gift of the gab would also be ideal. If you check out our website (www.gofishqld.com.au) you will see that we offer beach fishing as an option, which is very popular for families and those who get a little sea-sick out on boats. Our business targets the luxury market, ie, those who don't mind spending more to get good service. Our beach fishing is offered across Queensland and primarily attracts the Asian and North American markets who are usually staying at a 5 Star hotel and also expect 5 star all the way. We offer early morning or late afternoon beach fishing to ensure they catch a fish. The fishing spot is determined by our fishing expert based on season and weather conditions. The itinerary is that the guests are picked up by limo at their hotel, taken to the beach where they will meet you, then you will fish for about 3 hours. After that we finish with a gourmet breakfast or if its the afternoon, canapés and drinks. If this sounds like you, please send an email to info@gofishqld.com.au with a short brief about you. Thanks Ange
  10. Do you think I could have any success catching fish of any kind casting a very small spoon lure in the surf on one of the beaches on the Sunshine or Gold Coast? I've been consuming a lot of fishing content on Youtube when I am stuck at home and unable to fish. And one of the videos I find interesting is this guy using a rod, reel and small spoon lure in the surf. He is using a ~3 gram Acme Kastmaster Lure, and catching a few different small fish. It seems that these kinds of lures are often much bigger and used for Pelagic fish that live in deep water far from shore. So I don't know if buying a similar lure would be a total waste of money when I don't have a boat or kayak. I don't want to take any fish from the surf, I just want to see what is there. I really like the look of what he calls a "houndfish" in the video.
