      1. After reading reports the Mackerel were quiet on Mermaid and Palmy on Saturday i headed wide of the Seaway on Sunday morning. Also heard Spanish were caught on Diamond on Saturday and quickly found out a few others heard that too - at least 20 boats there. Fairly lumpy ride out before getting to my area and sounding out some good shows of bait. Fished using spot lock for a while but the current was fairly fast and I only managed a couple of undersize Snapper. Decided to drift over the reef and started to get a few decent fish, with best one going 53cm. Did a few drifts but the jostling started to get to me so went home with 4 legal Snapper. Came across some fish hitting bait on the surface near the Seaway entrance, but couldn't tempt them with a slug - must have been very small baitfish. Looked like Mac Tuna anyway Marty
      2. Congrats to all the people who submitted a report in October and were nominated by their peers. It was a huge month of reporting and thus nominations making it a very hard one to judge. A special mention goes out to @rodreellurefish for his video report from Tasmania. This was just an awesome point of difference and so cool to see. In fact, with this report as the benchmark we will be adding "point of difference" to the potential criteria for future months judging. If you did not catch it you can view this report here: Using the existing criteria things were still tough to judge but the final decision has awarded @benno573for his report on his Moreton Island adventure. As always it is the effort put in that makes a winning ROTM. The info, the additional pictures. These things make a real story, one I would prefer to read than any forced magazine article. Well done Benno. Mr @Zim man will be in touch Sorry the late announcement I have been all over the place doing a reno and often without computer. Good luck for those reporting in November! I was hoping to be joining you but looks like my weekend off falls on the weekend we can move back in! Angus

      16. Month:April Reporters Username:Simo68 Report Name:Hooked-on Tingalpa URL Link: Well as I stated in the easter post, was trying to keep away from the hordes over the break and resigned to leaving the line dry until week or so into future.....thats until I started to get cold sweats and jitters, not a good time to go cold turkey obviously. So I took my 14 year old daughter Lily out on a 'Tingalpa bridge special', I was surprised the wireless speaker and all those awful tunes didn't accompany us out onto the bridge (actually she has a cracking taste in music, so thats a bit unfair)! Tide was just turning, 1 hour in, and we fished a few blood worms dropped under road bridge, (Rickertt Road) - Lily snapped up a nice fish straight up (her first for a while...im in the picture cause she wouldn't go near those gnashers chomping away)!! Then we hooked into a 'small Breambo frenzy' and caught 9 fish in the next 15 minutes... Nothing to write home about, although great entertaining new spot found for the kids into the future, the bites died off towards LT mark and we packed up to get x4 Coopers Green on special for $24 (and a coke for Lily). Simo68 and first-born child Lily.
      17. Month: March (23rd) Reporters Username:Simo68 Report Name:Jew come here often? URL Link: After fudging around the LBG for the last few months and dealing with weekend traffic and gazing at puffer fish while waiting for a bite, it was great to get an awesome invite from AFO legend Drop Bear to have a squiz around the Port. I had boasted about a secret flatties hot spot ‘the pipe’ and that was tempting enough to get a gig on his boat for the day. My son Tayt and I had completed a LBG reckie the weekend before and met an old Polish sea-dog fishing the banks at Pinkenba who told us about another hot spot (although he had more tales about brown/red belly snakes around that area). We also saw a heap of signage ‘snakes beware’, so throw some caution if you head out that way LBG-ing. Heaps of Fishos have told us about going to the end of Main Beach Road and walking through to fish at the point, however we drove all around that area (and we are not shy of a bit of fence hopping in the name of recreational fishing) and there was no way through - heaps of construction/security/temp fencing that didn't make it possible). Anyway, back to yesterday. After some serious rain Thursday night, I wasn’t expecting too much, it would be good to suss out a few spots for another day. Drop Bear had other ideas though and soon we were powering around the Port area on our first mission of the day. For LBG - go over the Gateway to Pinkenba, up Route 25 Bancroft Road (which turns into Main Beach Road on a right angled corner in the road) and turn right into Brownlee Street - which will take you right down to a rough car park, you will see a telegraph pole about 15m out, this is all sand and a good spot if you have no boat. Soft plastics were first cab off the rank, found a shallow sandy bottom next to a deep hole on the finder, and I hooked into a warm-up Bream first up on a Minnow, we then cracked on to pastures new. Drop Bear took us through a labyrinth of mangroves for some bait collection, it was at this point I thought meeting a bloke over the internet perhaps wasn’t such a good idea, but I came out unscathed, so all good. Its been a while since I used a cast net (give or take 20 years), Drop Bear gave me scores of 1/10, 4/10, 6/10, 2/10 but I managed to pull in a few livies which would do us for the next few hours. We got beeped at by the river police and graciously moved aside. Blood worms/Pillies and a healthy selection of live-bait delicacies were on offer now and we put some serious graft into Clara Rock – SNAPPED OFF HARD, but that just made me want more! Clara Rock is in the Brisbane River, just upstream from the mouth of the boat passage. https://mapcarta.com/16688644. ‘Yoda’ told me only an hour or so either side of the tide was mint, as it can be tricky when tide is in full swing. Having Drop Bear's R2DT electric motor was awesome, keeping us well positioned in our selected GPS location. The it was ON, slightly regretting rod selection at this point (whiting rod with real whip tip), but no turning back now. Some expert tutuilage and crafty boat handling from Drop Bear supported me to bring it home. Check out this beauty, first ever Jew fish (76cm) !!! So glad I hooked up with ATO a few months back, now I am back on a more righteous path in life. 'The Pipe' I don't know why my son Tayt called this secret spot the pipe, as there isnt really a pipe here - however it is a weird spot and we found it to be a spot filled with mystery and closely guarded by Port Stormtroopers. Its location is the inlet off Lucinda Drive as you get to Fishermans Island. If you look at the map its in the triangle point at the bottom of the island. The beauty in this spot is there is a man-made lake the other side of the road, and a channel comes down with run-off at each change in the tide = monster flatties (apparently). Forget LBG here, as the fences and security is on high alert. Good signs when we arrived, as a turtle poked his head up to say G-day and a few sneaky cormorants had beat us there and were in front of us in the queue. Edged closer to the sluice gates on the channel and something smashed Drop Bear’s livebait ......more than once, one bait returned had a bite mark out of its back – we had no idea what we were facing!! Just as things were getting exciting in this spot, up rolled Port Stormtrooper, fiddling around like those little black midges. “you are OK in the boat, but don’t step on the land”, OK cheers, so we are in a boat and not on the land, so fish-on. “you are treading a f-yyyyne line, you are OK but it’s a F-yyyne line”. We made a pledge to come back here, allowing for a little more time on out-going tide. So how good is AFO to connect fishos, share experiences, have the odd brag (see above pic). What an awesome day, made a new mate, caught my first Jew, got PB score of 6/10 for throwing a cast net. Need to upgrade my Esky now ive improved my hunter-gatherer skills. Cooked it up in the oven, with the kids running round saying "Jew want fries with that" - no respect!!! Ate the cheeks and one side, simply baked in the oven with some butter, olive oil and coriander, didn't need anything more. Gleaned off the rest of the flesh for Thai fishcakes tonight: https://www.sbs.com.au/food/recipes/classic-thai-fish-cakes Kudos to Drop Bear - living the dream Simo
      18. Dear members, I am happy to announce the revival of a very old competition on AFO and the reintroduction of what of AFO's oldest sponsors! Due to massive increase in traffic lately (thank you members) Rob Searing has announced he will pick up once again through his website Master Angler the Report Of The Month Competition! Check out the website here: https://masterangler.com.au/ Master Angler features a HUGE range of awesome gear from Damiki, Pontoon 21, Megabass, Bassday, Fish Arrow, Flying Fisherman, Magbite and well, just heaps more! Have a good look at the site and i am sure you will be impressed with range and value. Each month a $75 voucher that can be used on anything in the store will be up for grabs! FYI: As we are starting mid month the inaugural Report Of The Month Competition will be announced on the last day of April and prize will be a $100 voucher! So how does Report of The Month Work? This is the simple part. There will be a dedicated thread for this competition for members (admin included) to nominate reports to be considered*. Each month the nominated reports will be perused and a winner chosen. Considerations will be made to: * Quality of writing * Quality of images (Including video) * Success of report * General engaging nature of layout, humor etc. * Informative nature of report With all these things being considered, a report could win if it had one sentence and awesome pictures, or one picture and awesome writing. However a report with a combination of the above will have a much better chance. Hopefully (and this has been the case in the past) this will give some members a little more inspiration to go the extra mile and generate something that gives members a good read and some visual titillation. Obviously the engagement with the competition will decide its future so please keep reporting! To support those that support us please do take the time to check out the Master Angler site. We will try and arrange some product reviews ASAP to give you some insight into the products available. Thanks again Rob for making this compeition possible! Regards Angus and the AFO Team. *there is no stigma with self nominating. It is a comp and if you go to the effort of writing then nominating is akin to "entering".
      19. Howdy all. So just wanted to sticky this in the ROTM category for future reference. The idea of the competition is all for a bit of competitive fun without involving sheep stations so please keep fun in mind. Why should you nominate? Firstly the support members who help make the site worth visiting! Even if you are also competing please be selfless in their endevour as the site would be a very sad place to visit without reports! Secondly to support a sponsor that is really giving a fair bit over the course of a year to help the site. How can you nominate? Below the format and each month there will be a thread where these nominations can be made and discussions had if needed. Reporters Username: Report Name: URL Link: Thanks everyone in advance! And thanks to Master Angler for the support! Cheers. Angus & The AFO Team
