The Toogoom Family Fishing Competition will be moved to October in 2013 as a direct result of the legislation passed in the Queensland Parliament recently to move the Labour Day public holiday from May to October. The competition will run from Friday 4th October to Sunday 6th October 2013 with the Labour Day public holiday on Monday 7th October.

The Toogoom Fishing Club Inc., organizers of this major fishing tournament on the Fraser Coast, decided to move the event once again after previously moving it from the Australia Day long weekend to May in 2012 when Australia Day no longer necessarily formed a long weekend. The Queen’s Birthday holiday will return to June.

Club President, John Higgins said that having the Monday holiday has always been a major drawcard for the Toogoom comp with many people complimenting the club members not only on the excellent organization, but the fact that everyone participating has the extra day to recover or travel.

"I hope that our past supporters, both sponsors and entrants, will come on board again for this great event," said Mr Higgins.

Another benefit for the Toogoom Comp will be the move away from the concentration of other local fishing competitions occurring during the first half of the year.

Fears that the Toyota AFL Grand Final would clash with the new date can be alleviated with that event scheduled for Saturday 28 September 2013 (http://www.afl.com.au/news) web site 02-11-12, and the Telstra NRL Grand final 2013 on 29 September (http://www.sportsnetholidays.com/events) web site 02-11-12.
