This year there are 4 categories, they are as follows:

Beach fish Category includes; Flathead, Bream, Dart, Whiting & Tailor.
Jew Fish Category includes; Jew fish.
Reef fish Category includes; Snapper, Red Emperor, Pearl Perch, Parrot, Sweet Lip.
Big FishCategory; for fish over 8kg and does NOT include any of the above species or Cod, Rays, Shark and Bill Fish.
Do I have to fish all the time?Â
NO – the event runs for 8 days and you can fish for one day or all eight. We have encompassed a full weekend so those local people who can’t get the time off work can still participate during the 1st full weekend and still be apart of the grand finale, as we finish the following saturday. You don’t even have to catch a fish or fish for that matter to have a chance at the major prizes.

What are Kids Day, Veterans Day & Ladies Day?
Kids Day is on the 1st Sunday of the event. Jumping Castles, face painting and balloons are all free for the kids after 3:00pm. Every child on the day entered into the competition will receive a gift bag.

Veterans Day is on Tuesday . Competitiors over the age of 60, “Veteran classification” are able to compete against each other with the opportunity to win species 1st & 2nd prizes in addition to the open competition species 1st and 2nd prizes. “Double the chance”.

Ladies Day is on Thursday. All women in the adult classification are able to compete against each other with the opportunity to win species 1st & 2nd prizes in addition to the open competition species 1st and 2nd prizes. “Double the chance”.

Where can we stay?
Rainbow Beach can cater to everybodies needs and budget requirements. You can stay in any of the resorts, motels, caravan parks, rent a house or even just camp in the mirrid of pristine camping areas running up and down the immediate coastline.
