i think your right heath on it being a salmon catfish. I caught a few in the gulf. they have a different head little more trianglular shaped. Not sure exactly what species though. There flesh is really white and suprisingly clean. The Murris love em.

Everyone uses different pound line to chase barra. Personaly i use 30-40 pound braid. But some impoundment guys go as low as 20 and bellow. However these are heavy hard fighting fish and you would hate to lose a big girl due to line breakage. So i would probably recomend using as heavier line class as you can get away with on your Sol. Beef up your leader as well. And you shouldnt have to many dramas dropping fish! Hope you get into some big chromies mate!

I went to launch the boat tonight and it was fully blocked off! I tried the smaller one further down and it was also pad locked up! Was wondering why this was. Deff not a good place to get a cut or impaled limb thats for sure! Cheers for the update rayke! Wish i read this earlier this afternoon though haha

Karumba is in the Gulf of Carpentaria MJ. So yes it is in QLD.
