  4. Hey mate

G day.I am a beginner to bream fishing and I pick this up for my first fishing trip then learn more fishing tips.

I read some of your article and maybe you a pro guy targeting this. So just wondering could I get some advice about bream and mullet fishing in brizzy river from you if possible.Something like gear setting, bait ,tide and when maybe the best time to make sure fishing hooked and not drag your line too early or too later.I am land based fishing now and when my bank account say yes I will buy a boat.Any idea and advice are much appreciated.:fishing2:

Hi @Jun. Sorry for the quite late reply (haven't been on the site lately)

I'm definitely not a pro bream fisher, just getting a little bit of luck lately which may make my bream posts look better.

I rarely if ever fish in the Brisbane river so can't give you advice there but you could try the pine river (20 mintues north of brissy river) at deep water bend on the tide change fishing baits close to structure or even at the Kedron brook floodway at nudgee along the rockwall near the mouth. These 2 spots is where I fish for estuary bream mostly and do okay to poor to great (hit and miss).

The gear I run for bream consist of 6'6 - 7'0 2kg - 4kg graphite spin rods, with a 1000 - 2500 sized spin reels loaded with 3lb - 6lb braid or 4lb - 6lb mono line and find it perfect I also use sz2 octopus style hooks and light fluoro leaders. The best bream baits I've found is 1. FRESH LOCAL mullet strips 3cm long x 2cm wide 2. LIVE bloodworms (note bloodworms are expensive $9 - $11 for 25g of them) 3. chicken thigh or breast strips 4cm long x 2cm wide.

The best tide I've found so far in my bream fishing is either 2 hours before high then 1 hour after high or 1 hour before low then 2 hours after low. And for hook setting when I get the tap, tap, tap go thru the rod/line I ignore it and wait for the rod to pull towards the water solidly and lift the rod in a firm upward motion to set the hooks 90% of the time.

Hope this helps, and you get some monster bream soon! :)
