  1. they are pretty spooky, ive sat and watched 3-4 good size jacks swimming around a pontoon one night just seeing what they were doing, moment i made any noise they'd dart behind the pilons and have a little cry, then 5mins later gather the courage to start pacing back and forth again along the pontoon till i make more noise etc. the other fish around the pontoon didnt give a stuff about me (till i caught a tailor that splashed around shutting the whole place down)

ive never had another hit at a jetty/whatever ive been bricked at until 15-20mins afterwards and that could always be another fish

  2. how heavy you go will depend where you're fishing for them too, this summer was my first season chasing jacks, got 2 avg sizers out of a handful of trips and could only seem to connect with lighter gear, runnin 15lb braid/15 or 20lb leader, 1/12th and lighter jighead and small bream size plastics.

tried crankbaits, surface lures, bigger plastics and pretty much every lure in the box on heavier gear and couldnt tempt, quite possibly something to do with the jacks in the area i fish for them.

one thing about them is the harder you push them the harder they pull, ive been bricked many times by being too enthusiastic with the drag whereas the ones i landed i took it easy and steered them away from structure instead of trying to yank them out.

havent chased on bait or livies yet but unweighted/very lightly weighted against the rocks would be my suggestion

  3. I have 2 whippets (small versions of greyhounds), they don't come fishing with me because they are scared of the boat :(

they're also scared of threadies, not scared of any species but threadies rofl its weird. you should have seen the little one when i brought home the 130cm, he just about sh** himself

they go like the clappers and are both < 1 year old

heres the big one, saxon: (calm and responsible one)

  4. from my experience which is mostly limited to the river and the mouth of the river, hardyheads are useless oxygen wasters for your bucket and garfish crap all over them

i dont think ive ever had a hardyhead hit by anything lol

garfish are great though, dead or alive

the story might be different out in the bay or other areas or even for other people but thats just what i've experienced so get some more opinions before you reject the little buggers like i have :D
