Heading out to do some fishing down there tomorrow. I've had no luck at Wellington point Jetty or the canal mouths at Birkdale. Anybody know of any good spots to hit up that don't require a king tide to fish in besides the respective Jetties? Cheers.
Hi KC24
These are just some spots I've found from a book (Landbased Fishing Guide Brisbane Area by Nigel Webster). I can't say I've fished all of them but they should get you started.
1. Raby Bay Canal Northern Entrance - bream, flathead, whiting, tailor, mangrove jack, trevally, estuary cod, crabs
2. Raby Bay Foreshores - whiting, flathead, bream, tailor, squid
3. Cleveland Point - whiting, bream, flathead, mangrove jack, mud and sand crabs
Here are some areas around Victoria Point to:
1. Point Halloran - whiting, bream, flathead, tailor, squid
2. Victoria Point - bream, flathead, whiting, tailor, snapper, estuary cod, squid, crabs
3. Yeo Park Shoreline - whiting, flathead, bream
4. Redland Bay Boat Ramp - whiting, bream, flathead, tailor, jewfish, mangrove jack, mud and sand crabs
5. Point Talburpin - whiting, bream, flathead
From what the book says, I get that most of these locations are good to flick lures around near structure/in the shallows while in deeper parts use bait for jew, jacks, snappers and estuary cod. Hope this is a good guideline to get you to some fishing spots, and I hope you are successful at a couple of them 🙂
Cheers Hamish 🙂
