Hey Steve, Welcome to AFO.
You have just posted a 'Status Update', that most members do not follow, unfortunately.
May I suggest that you copy what you have written and 'Create' a Topic in the 'Introduce Yourself' forum.
It's a pretty friendly forum, so members are always there to help out and friendships outside the forum are not unusual.
Cheers,
Brian

G'day mate. Looks like you have some good marks already !
Not many members view 'status updates' like you have made here. You really need to use the "Create" button on the top right hand side of the page to make a "Topic" in the Forum.
If you need help just send me a Private Message - click on the Envelope icon up the top of the page.
Cheers and welcome to the site.

Thank you guys. Oldie been fishing more than sixty years. Lake Orr would seem to be my patch from now. Some guys seem to do ok so whether I catch or don't catch it's very pleasant just to sit with a rod in hand and hope.

G'day Harmy,
Feel free to post an 'Introduce yourself' thread in the forum by hitting 'Create' in the top right hand corner.
Not many people on the forum follow the 'Statuses'.
Lake Orr sounds like a nice place to have a relaxing fish.

Hey Willi,
I have an SS64. I looked at the Sig 580BR (now called 620BR) too.
In terms of purchasing advice. I can offer the following.
The SS64 is wider and longer than the 620BR. Neither boat is the length in the name.
The hull of the SS64 is about 6m. The rear steps overhang so . The Hull of the 620 is 5.8 m.
The 620BR has a better hull. That is no surprise because signatures have one of the best hulls going. That said - the SS64 hull is good too. It handles the bay well but as with everything you have to drive to the conditions. Sometimes I have to go 20 kph into a strong wind (40 kph +) to keep the passengers comfortable - other times you can open it up...
If you do big game fishing neither boat is appropriate because you can't reverse hard in to a chop or you'll take water over the rear - especially the SS64 through the walkway. BUT for general bay fishing, drifting, rivers, estuaries, etc. the layout of the SS64 is far superior. The rear platforms give you heaps of space. The ocean grip flooring means cleaning is a breeze and it is comfortable under foot. I have some pieces to make a casting deck up front and you can make some decking for where the rear seats go. With that set-up - 5 can fitch comfortable casting lures. 2 up front two up the back and one in the cockpit. The SS 64 has more space up front and more at the rear for fishing leaving space for wives etc in the cockpit. A common configuration is me and a mate fishing of the back and the two girls up the front getting pissed....
The SS64 has no timber in the construction. The 620BR has heaps. It is an old design. You can get sea-dek in the floor but they literally lay carpet first then cut it out where the sea-dek goes so you end up with a mix of carpet and sea-dek which really sucks.
If you go with the 620BR anywhere except Sydney they will want to put a Suzuki on it. This is a good engine. Most of the SS64 dealers do Mercury. I have been Yamaha all my life but I got the Mercury 225 HP ProXS on my SS64. This motor is a BEAST! You can't describe the grunt. It blows me away every time. 0- 90 kph in about 5 seconds and it's got plenty more too. I don't have the skill to drive it faster than that yet. It is the single best piece of kit I have ever owned. I would drive to Sydney from Brisbane to get the ProXS engine was getting the 620 but most of the Stejcraft dealers also do Mercury which is convenient.
Bit of an essay but I hope that helps.
There's probably more I can tell you so feel free to ask any other questions.
Cheers
S
PS Mine is being fitted with a Mini Kota at the moment. Which should make it even better. Like a Bass boat that the wife loves too

I really appreciate you taking the time to post such a long message. I've just put down a deposit on the SS64 with 200 proXS V8. Sounds like my impression was pretty accurate - good hull but not the best, superb layout, no timber is good.
Very nice to get some first hand impressions from other owners. I can't wait to get it. Will mostly use it in the Sandy Strait west of Fraser island.

Thanks. I would like to post a question on one of the blogs but would rather not use my email address as my display name - can I change it?

Hey kswilson@tpg.com.au
I'm sorry but I don't believe there is. Hopefully a moderator can will see this, but as far as I know you can't.
A solution would be to make another account, but you might not want to do that. Hopefully a solution comes up
Cheers Hamish

Thanks for the welcome. I’ve been a little busy catching Murray cod over the Easter break. It does help immensely if the fishery is 30 meters out my back door. No massive fish landed around the 40-70 cm length for all , lost one good one that bricked me. Will be heading up to Cooktown mid July for a couple of weeks to get a saltwater fix. The missus and I did the same trip last year and had a blast. Tight lines to all cheers Migs
