There are SOO many good points raised but one I would like to add Why ? am I 'm a Lurker of late Mainly due to work then the weather's screwed and due to the fore mentioned work commitments to yard needs mowing etc etc so no input as far as offering advise Best Advise Search the Forum I gave up on copy and paste answers lol

but could the Admin post a sticky thread on what could be required as a deckie ie:

If a deckie spot is offered you may be expected to

Help with launching and retrieval of the boat

Share in the cost of a day on the water (take into consideration the trip a electic dam trip will be alot less than a off shore trip) and bait is not cheap @ bait cost lol

offer assistance where needed (remember you are a guest)

try to be punctual (even a bit early to offer help if required)

even a bad day out on a boat is better than land based

but remember most of all a skipper will try to make the most of a day for their own enjoyment as he/she is not a charter boat looking to make money but a fellow fisher looking for a good day

and finally even if you had a crap day fishing which can happen

A big thank you will get another trip as a deckie remember you are a guest not a paying costomer

I personally dont like the term Deckie as this implies slave or lower level on a boat

bottom line for invited fisho's if offered a spot ask your skipper what will I need etc

Some valid comments have been made I think the non chipping in was just the icing on the cake what really pissed me off was the lack of gratitude

I mean is it that hard to say Thank you !! Surely you don't need to put that up as a pre requisite

Just for the record I caught a good feed of fish the Keepers: 3 red throat emperor ,2 tuskies, 1 yellow fin bream (which I gave to the deckie) also caught but released maori cod small sweetlip and a few I had no idea of what they were so it was a pretty good day :woohoo:

my deckie boated some fish but only managed 2 small sweet lip same rig/ bait etc thats fishing I spose

At the end of the day it gets back to what goes around comes around

just to add to that it doesn't need to be be $ (even though that helps ) but some sort of appreciation goes a long way

If invited to a spot on a boat

That doe's not mean you have to be a slave well not in my eyes (share the duties to make for a good trip)

My latest experience left a very sour taste in my mouth

Watched as I poored x amount of fuel in the car to tow the boat to the destination then when decided to add some to the boat in case needed a comment thirsty was added inforemed that it had a big tank an was not needed but better to have more than less hands still in pocket I got an extra kg of squid still hands in pocket deckie bought 1 x 250 gr pack of frozen prawns with him :blink

ended up deckie had NO leader or tackle to suit sinkers etc and winged that I was catching fish and he was on the wrong side of the boat :woohoo:

The cream of the crop Not one Thank you or offer to pay for any of the trip and had the gall to say well maybe next time yeah right you have been on my boat for 2 trips the first and last

I'm not a charter never have claimed to be

but will work grounds to find fish

Waz and Zac

Waz is the short haired one and has been mauled by a red healer in WA and eyed off by pelicans and Kites all around OZ The Fuzzy one is ZAC and that is what he has between his ears ( yeah BIG EARS ) They are both mini foxie crossed with Papillon short hair has more foxie you can guess the other

both from the same breeder

My Ex wife has both of em

I.ve had German shepards rotties dobbie's but these's little guys where the best fun if only rentals allowed pets

no Laughing they are great dogs and love nothing more than cruising in the tray of my cruiser even though they had to strain to see over the the side of the tray

but no more pets for me

well not at this point of time too hard to find rentals that allow pets

with freshly packed bearings as Feral has shown the wheel should turn easliy but not spin due to the grease

example if you grab a brand new bearing it will turn smoothly but wont spin (sealed roller that is ) take the seals off wash all the grease out and it will spin like a top but wont last long under load

Screw it up as hard as you can to seat the inner then back it off and screw it till it feels good
