Hi,
A newbie here - was in the same position as you a few months ago and after a frustrating exercise trying to even look at 2nd hand I decided to take the plunge and buy new.
Bought a 4.3m Quintrex Fishabout Pro with a 60HP Yamaha - not cheap but solid and stable which I will keep for a long time - the Mrs flatly refused to go in anything without a screen and Bimini - helped reduce the choice that's for sure.
All the advice given is valid and great - those first trips are nerve wracking and most definitely don't hesitate to ask for help and advice when at the ramp - learn the etiquette about prepping before getting to the ramp etc. People are very friendly in general and happy to help if you need it.
After about 80 hours of lake and some river/estuary I am getting comfortable with launch and retrieve and learning heaps of stuff i.e. that idle speed is your friend - throttle control takes time to learn.
Suggest try taking it to local lakes as well so you can get practise without Tides /waves and busy ramps.
Practise your backing at the local car park - it will become muscle memory after a few hours.
Oh yeah - definitely a long rope secured to the Bow (the front pointy bit) is essential.

I have a 60HP Yammy and used a Trailer Roller with a slot cut so you push it over the rod - tight fit - as something to take the load off the hydraulics (Single ram) - it is a pretty solid one so it does not distort when the motor is lowered. Much better option than using the factory fitted service support thing and cheaper than the $100 yamaha product.
The powered trim has no feature like a garage door so I guess it will just break something - never tried it!
