I agree with Neil, different spots at different stages of the tide....

Incoming look for feeding banks about to get a few inches of water on them....they will be feeding hard there for about 30 minutes. Keep following the flooding banks as the water rises. You want to cast into about 6 inches of water roughly.

Once the bites have tapered off you need to find where they will wait for food to come to them....look for a sand bank that tapers down to the river bank along the river.....you can bet a years wages they will sit there until the top of the tide vacuuming up all the worms and small crabs and yabbies dislodged by the sand bank being disturbed.  You really should recon the river towards the last of the run out tide to learn where this high tide spot will be. Ideally the sand bank should be at least 1/2 the river wide and taper down to the bank on one side only on the upstream end.....the fish will be over the last 15 metres of that bank guaranteed. Google Earth Pro shows these sand banks quite well too....another way to plan your run.

    thanks

I don't think flathead migrate as such, but they do change their habits a bit around spawning time.

I can go to almost any of my normal flathead fishing areas in any week of the year and get some flathead.

What does change is how you tempt them to take your line.

Some periods I find they will only take  a live bait...same location 3 weeks later they will devour anything. For me in three of the locations I am thinking about it is mid August to mid September....we have a algae bloom here every year and everything gets covered in snot weed.

During spawning time the smaller males are most likely the fish you will catch....the big females are engorged with roe and less likely to be actively feeding.

One thing that does not change year round is the time to chase them....run out tide....Most of my usual places are the bottom 1/3rd of the tide running out.

thanks that the same for when i go to donnydrook

Are you getting water from the tell tale ?

If not, pull the bottom of the leg off. Clean out sand from the impeller housing. Replace. See if water now comes from the tell tale. If not, try connecting s hose to the tell tale hose and back wash. Continue until the sand stops coming out. Further, you can remove the thermostat to see if the water is flowing.

thanks yes i got water from telltale idle is cold but over 2000 rpm gets hot slowly
