Went to western arm with Rick and Joy. Shrimp traps a bit light on but good size. We were restricted to fishing in the bays due to the wind. Found one spot that was ok but as the boat was yawing a lot we kept on getting snagged besides feeding the prolific barred grunter. Found a couple pf trees where we were able to tie off fore and aft but the barred grunter still prolific to the delight of the eagle. We finished off early with a total of 26 bass ,one tandanus and a nice yella. All tagged and released,

School free day. End of their Holidays.
    Arrived around sunrise. Top morning.
One of the easiest places to go rock fishing.
First up a nice drummer ( Released ) The boys caught 2 tailor.
    I caught two nice snapper 45cm & 48cm.
The boys caught 2 flathead & another tailor. They were happy.
Enough for me for my return to the rocks.
I tried out my new rod. Storm Gomoku 13ft. Casts very well. I had a Penn SpinfisherV 6000 reel on it. Good combo.
    Newport Arms for breakfast
    Lots of laughs.
    Cheers.

It was another  solo trip chasing rainbows this morning .
Did a bit of exploring and found a little bit of gold at the end of one rainbow ,down Jumpinpin way.
I also stumbled across a fantastic live bait spot stacked full of herring and huge hardy heads , never seen so many in one small area., the water was literally black and boiling with them .(Those threadfin are now on my short list for May)
Unfortunately I Left my tags and good brag mat in the other boat , so the little jewie didn’t get any jewellery to wear home.
Unfortunately for the  Northside I had an old  measuring device stashed in my rod locker.
    SOUTHSIDE
    Flathead 570mm
    Mulloway 740 mm
    Big eye trevally 510mm

All round slow day today with both the shrimp and fish hard to find. Ran out of bait by 10.30 with a tally of 19 bass and one tandan. Still good company and great to be on the water, Went upstream and only 2 trees productive a few bass just made 40cm rest mediocre.

We have been trying to get up to Baroon Pocket dam for a while and been thwarted either due to availability or the dam closed due to rainfall. We finally made it this morning to find the visibility near zero due to a heavy fog that did not lift until around 8am. We used the gps to find one of out usual spots and found the bass hungry . We pulled around 40 before they went quiet so we went upstream and could not find any bass so we went downstream and found another school where we ran out of shrimp . Final tally was 62 bass and one tandan. Largest bass went 42cm and the tandan 58cm. Only disappointment was that Bucks pies were closed due to anzac day. 2 fish kept for the table others all tagged and released.

From seq water site. There used to be warning signs at both ramps but they were removed a few years ago. But still on website.
I no longer eat any fresh water fish due to if I want them I have to clean and cook myself. When Steve Wilkes used to have his father and sons weekends we used to cook them at the campsite and they were great. Hinze dam fish are one of the best eating fish from all the seq dams due to the absence of bony bream. Quite a few of my mates eat them regularly. From what I have seen from the reports the elevated levels were only in the larger fish and mates only take sub 40cm fish.
CATCH AND RELEASE ONLY AT HINZE DAM

Seqwater has advised fishers to release and not eat fish from Hinze Dam because of naturally-occurring mercury.
Queensland Health has warned that fish caught in the dam are not suitable to eat due to elevated levels of naturally-occurring mercury in longer-lived fish.

3 of us went to the western arm this morning the shrimp traps were a little light on as it is 5 weeks since we were there. We headed upstream to a few spots around the entrance of bass bay. The fish were moving around in waves and we managed 20 bass with the largest being only 40cm and the majority just over legal and one tandanus. Had to move twice because the barred grunter were stealing our bait but we got our own back on some of them and fed them to the eagles. Back at the ramp at 10.30 due to lack of bait.
