So a bit over a week ago I picked up an Ally Craft Avalon 395, 25hp merc sea pro, 54lb motorguide cable steer setup for $2500. It needed a good clean as it didn't present well and had say mostly un-used for the last 5 years, but the motor had 145psi in each cylinder, leccy worked and didn't notice any hull issues.
We cleaned her up, bolt mounted the outboard (was only clamped), changed the gearbox oil, greased her nipples, new spark plugs, put in a Lowrance Fish2 7xTS that I nabbed for $250, picked up a 100ah lithium deep cycle for $749 (100a sustained discharge rated), replaced the rego stickers.Still going to/have to do the water pump based on time since it was last done for piece of mind, probably in a few weeks once the parts arrive. After that we'll look into giving the trailer a refurb. It's usable, but the usual things like springs, U bolts etc are all a fair bit rusty and I doubt the wheel bearings have been looked at for a while... good project for my son and I to sink our teeth into.
Anyway, we hit the maroochy river on sunday and in spite of the mass amount of boat (and jet ski.. so many jet skis) traffic we still managed to boat 3 flatties including a double hookup. The day was more about putting the boat through its paces anyway.
She's not as nice as my last boat, but I'm very very happy with it.Pics are prior to being cleaned up... for what its worth.

Would anyone have any recommendations? It's come to my attention that the roller on a second hand reel I bought (daiwa fuego LT2000D) is no good. Would prefer not to have to send it away, though will if I have to.
Cheers

So, from around 2006 to 2016 I was mad keen on fishing. If I had 5 spare minutes Id wet a line.. absolutely lived and breathed fishing. Life got complicated, I move down to bris, got a new job and fishing kinda fell to the wayside. Couple of weeks ago my 17yo told me he wanted to get into fishing... now, my reaction may have been overboard because I kinda went nuts on buying up gear to replace what I finally sold a year ago.
Anyway, over the course of the last two weeks I've put together 6 outfits for my son and I and I'm honestly shocked at how much better the gear is for a given price point compared to a decade ago. Can't remember some of my rods, but i was running a daiwa steez 2004, shimano stradic ci4 1000 and 2500, Daiwa luvias 2500, pflueger medalist 3000 and 4000, pflueger patriarch (baitcaster.. this is a reel i wish i never got rid of)... had a couple of luvias rods, a pflueger or two, bunch of other $100-$200 rods.Just put together
Daiwa generation black 2500 on Shimano Zodias 2-4kg - So far beyond anything I used to own, including the steez on my Luvias 2-4kg, that I'm astonished.
Stradic 2500 FL on an old Pflueger medalist 2-4kg
Daiwa Fuego 2500D on a Shimano Anarchy 1-3kg
Stradic 4000 FL on an Abu Garcia Max
Daiwa Aggrest 4000 on a Daiwa Aggrest 3-6kg rod
Daiwa SLX 150 on an Abu Garcia Veritas 4-7kgNot a bad way to spend $1200.... Now, considering that back in the day my Steez 2004 and Luvias 2-4kg cost me about that on it's own and wasn't even as nice as the combo mentioned above... yeah, astonished.
Now to look into what has changed in the world of lures. -
Price match ($265) Stradic 2500 FL at anaconda with price beat brought it down to $236. Bargain in anyone's language.

Hi mate, just wondering what you catch in the mine? I'm about to start exploring it soon with my son.
