I need the fuel tank size for big reef trips. I won't have the tank under the casting deck, it will be just foreward of the centre of the boat.

Hi All. I'm looking at getting an underfloor fuel tank put into a Quintrex 420 Renegade tiller steer. The motor is a 40hp Yamaha two-stroke and I'm looking at around a 100l tank with some normal outboard tanks as extra. What would be the process of installing a tank. I know where I can get the tank and have it welded in, but I don't understand the process of plumbing it though. Would I need a fuel pump to pump the fuel to the motor? The fuel lines would be around 3m. How would I check the fuel level without gauges and what else do I need to know? Thanks

I’d have to check. There were definitely size limits for popular species before 1994 but I’m not sure about possession limits. I know pre-1988 recreational fishers could sell their excess catch to local “Fish Boards” so perhaps there were no possession limits. Leave it with me
Thanks Andrew.

Hi all,
I'm just curious to know when bag limits were implemented in Queensland? Were they passed in the 'Fisheries Act' of 1994? Any help would be really appreciated. Thanks

As for the value, I wouldn’t have a clue.
As to how long an outboard lasts comes down to a multitude of factors,
Knowing how many hours are on it can help determine lifespan if it has been regularly serviced, wether it has any corrosion throughout the water galleries or cylinders, what reading you get from compression test on all pots, that’s just a few, then there’s the electrics, there’s plenty of things to take into consideration when buying a secondhand outboard, and it can definitely pay to have a good mechanic give it a thorough going over,
Do you plan on keeping it for yourself?, or just throw some glitter at it and move it on?
I'll have to buy a cylinder compression tester on the weekend, as I don't know. I was told the compression was good and it was checked out by a mechanic for the previous owner when he bought it. I plan on trading it for a smaller outboard or selling it. I don't think I'll keep it in the long term, as I want an outboard for a roof topper.

Hi all,
I've just managed to purchase an early to mid 90's Mercury 2 stroke outboard. It is the 40hp 'Classic' model. It's an electric start, oil injected, electric trim and tilt model that does run. It will need a new impeller, spark plugs and possibly a carburetor flush, but is a promising motor. How long do these old outboards last for, and how much would this be worth if I give it a lick of paint (it's faded) and cleaned it up nicely? Thanks

Way gone sorry Bushy. They sold before I even got up there. I was due up there that weekend and they went on the Friday. Sorry.

Thanks guys.

Hi all. I have a few sounders lying around at the moment and I'm just wondering, will a totalscan transducer work on a Lowrance LMS 520C? I assume it will need an adapter, and sidescan won't work, but is it possible? Thanks

Thanks Tony. I might give that a whirl at a creek mouth.

Hi all,
I will be going up for 3 days fishing at Tinaroo Dam just after Easter. I will have access to a kayak with a sounder and a tinny. I've never really fished TInaroo before. I am staying on the edge of the Severin Arm and I'm planning to fishing right up Severin Creek and all the little bays. I am open to all forms of fishing (trolling, casting and live bait), but I refuse to troll around all day- only between spots. As I have a sounder on my kayak, when ever I scan a drop off or laydown, do you recommend dropping a live bait down or throwing a few vibes? I know people live bait the weed edges with a float, but would one on a paternoster in deeper water work as well? Please leave me with all your thoughts and recommendations on how to best catch impoundment barra. Thanks

Already rang Quintrex and they told me it can be done, but I can’t be insured. The engineering company told me otherwise. The motor is a 2005 40hp. There is nothing wrong with the motor, it just seems that 50hp motors are cheaper than 40hp ones in my area.

Okay. All I want to do is change the max outboard by 10hp. I have had some people tell me they haven’t had any dramas with insurance but I don’t know. I might just have to ring the insurance company.

Thanks Nog. I made a few phone calls and it can be done. How did he go with insurance?

I live in QLD. I can’t just change the builders plate and get the boat checked by a marine surveyor?

Underfloor fuel tank

Thanks for the ideas. I might see if I can flush mount a fuel tank gauge. If not, a dowel will always work.
