Great to see the results. Congratulations.
What lure did the damage on the barra ?
Apparently some unreleased soft plastic swim bait prototype. The guy said he’d not heard of anyone catching a Barra with it yet

Nice stuff @Lava. A fish like that on your last cast would certainly give you the GT bug! Which dam did you fish for barra?

You've already got some good advice Lava.
BUT, for certain fish - All the ones with a bib, which should dive more - fish around structure, sand flats, and rocky areas. Reason being they will get down in the strike zone and hopefully the big bib will bounce them off snags. This could give you a chance of a baz, cod, jack, salmon, queenfish, or trevally. (And even flatties).
Your popper would be good for the early morning/dusk surface bite. Same areas I think. This would most likely be for a jack or pelagic fish.
The Nomad Riptides and lures in the bottom picture would probably best be fished for trevally around rocks or coral.
Good luck and let us know how you go!
Cheers Hamish

Ended up taking out a charter for the day, wasn’t very keen on casting lures all day. My back was absolutely fried from Barra fishing the days previous. So me and the old man chose to just use good old fashioned bait. We caught a few schoolies and reefies and kept some for dinner later that day. After watching a guy on the trip lose about $200 worth of lures in just a few hours it felt like the right choice. At the end of the day we stopped into our final spot and for some reason I felt the urge to give it a go almost like what the heck do I have to lose haha. I was shocked at how big the poppers are you use for these fish. I was just trying to learn technique and get a feel for big poppers. Nothing like I’ve used before tbh. After about 5 casts i got the hang of it somewhat, when all of a sudden I got smacked by a massive GT. Craziest fight I’ve ever had on rod and reel it was so epic. I almost done a summer salt on the hookup I was not expecting it at all. I was ready to go home. I was already happy with the days catch. It was pretty magical tbh being in a place like that, during a crazy sunset. Last cast of the day. Definitely got the GT bug! So yeah he’s the GT and Barra I caught in 2 days.
P.s if anyone has any idea what lure that is in the picture I’d like to know because I’m looking at buying a full GT setup and would love to know what lure I was using for my first big one. Cheers guys!

Hey guys I’m going up fishing in the Whitsundays in a couple days. I’ll be fishing from a boat salt and fresh water. It’s been a long time since I’ve used only lures. Always been a bait fisherman. I’ve fished heaps before but I’m very novice when it comes to lures. Well over the years I’ve actually got myself a good little collection of lures but don’t really know what ones are best for what fish etc. I know what they do obviously like which ones are best for trolling/shallow divers, floating/sinking etc. Just not which ones are the best and for what fish. I know my golden bombers work great up on the gulf for Barra. But I’m interested if anyone has a keen eye for any of the ones I have that think would work great for around the islands or in the creeks around prosperine and Faust dam.
