Was down fishing at the Ross Creek/Yeppoon main beach area the other day. One more thing to watch out for.

Happening with me. My last topic had capitals in all the right places but converted to all lowercase. Also, I cannot upload images nor see any images posted by others. Have tried Chrome, Edge, Firefox & Brave. All have the same problem. Using MacOS Catalina on an old MacBook Pro. Also happening on my Windows 10 & 11 computers and my Ubuntu Linux dual boot computers.

I reckon I'll need quite a bit of practice to master the SC knot. This knot looks very secure and easy to tie. I have no idea what it is called though:

Might duck down to BCF and get me a packet of Mustad Fastach Snaps and give them a go. What knot would be best to fasten them to the leader?

How big is the swell / wave break where you are trying with soft plastics. I'd recommend trying inland creeks / rivers first. Easier conditions to hone your craft.
Yeppoon beach where the Ross Ck comes out. Also Farnborough beach. Very little swell but gets very windy making casting difficult at times. i've en some good flathead caught off these beaches using both bait & plastics.

Thanks for the replies fellas. I'd better go and learn some new knots. Have just mastered the uni knot. Went and bought a Daiwa 7" BeefStick Z last week. Been down the beach a couple of times (when the wind isn't blowing a gale) and had a couple of goes with soft plastics. No luck yet.
Trying to upload an image but keep getting an error.

Being a newbie to fishing, trying to catch flatties. I'm asking whether it is a good idea to have a swivel/snap at the end of the leader. This would facilitate changing lures, rather than having to cut the old one off, retie and shorten the leader. This would mean you have a swivel at the end of the spooled line and another at the end of the leader. What do you think?

Great story Hamish. You're having more luck than I at Causeway. I've been trying at the boat ramp at the southern end (Kinka Bech end) of the lake. Had a few good bites on 25g Gillies lures. Haven't managed to land one yet though. It has been very windy here for a week.

Normally just before and during (and after, when the water is still running), is good. It stirs up all the fish and bait. Try casting behind any eddies off the bridge with a lightly weighted livie. I'm surprised it wasn't more crowded, normally when I've been there and it is running through there is a bridge full of people.
Thanks Hamish. It was bucketing down so only the hardcore were fishing. Nice warm rain though.

Thats a nice run through, were the stingrays at the bridge?
The fellow I was speaking to said there were some huge manta rays hanging around.

The flow was incredible, I'd never seen anything like it before. I don't know how good it would have been for fishing though.

Causeway Lake getting inundated by a king tide this morning. The dude fishing hadn't caught anything yet. It started pissing down shortly after. A nice warm, wet rain. Said there were plenty of sharks in th lake after low tide yesterday which made fishing a trial.

When I was a kid (in the 60s - 70s) we used to walk up our street in Concord West Sydney with an air rifle slung over our shoulders and a slinshot in our hip pocket. How times have changed.

Congrats, the best thing that you can do for yourself. It's hard but stay strong. You'll get there.

They must really dislike those All 4 Adventure blokes. Some of the stuff they drive through is crazy.

I like the country available around Yepoon.
Plenty of good buys here if you keep an eye on the market. We bought our house for $450k last January. Now worth $480k plus.

I don't think that I would chance land based fishing up some of the local creeks. This bloke wanders up and down Fishing Creek just north of Farnborough, he reckons the crocs add a little excitement to the venture. I reckon he's mad:
