Thanks all, Neil, money isn't the issue thankfully, was just sort of getting an idea as to how others are filling there reels. 100% fill reels to the top.

Thanks Bob, I do like that idea you've suggested, I thought of that but I don't know if I want to do guess work or if Im willing to completely unspool I reel to get it perfect. I think I've do as you have said, just need to find some time to do it, and buy the line.

    Thanks all, Peter K

I totally get that, I just wrote 150m to try make my question a bit easier to understand.

    Good Evening all.

Just a quick question. I've mentioned this before, I have just got a 2500 sized Daiwa Kix 23. For my custom build rod I made, 7 foot, 2-6lb. I am going to try switch to a 2000 if not the 2500 it is.
I would like to know, for the bread and butter estuary fishing, (bream, flathead, whiting, luderick etc....) do you all think it is better to fill 150m of mono, then 150m of braid, then fluro leader? Or just do a small mono backing of about 10-20m, then just under 300m of braid and top with some fluro leader.
Im asking because I've always used 300m of braid. I just realised, do I really need to spool that much braid on when I rarely with go over 50m of line (i am guessing by the way). I was looking at a different reel and peeled back about a bit of braid, and right underneath was brand new bright blue braid never used, just sitting there, 200m of braid doing nothing.
Is it better to just pack the spool with mono and have 150m of braid instead. That way I only change 150m of braid, this way the braid holds less memory of the spool.

    Cheers,
    Peter K

PS.     Sorry I rambled on, that definitely could have been said in half the amount of words!! hahaha.

Thanks that is something ive done in the past Huxstang, as for mangajack reply, that is a good suggestion, and i never though about the braid going through the mono between. Thanks for your ideas all.
    Cheers, Peter.

Despool the reel and wind it back on then your unused line is now on the top.  But of a **** around as you wind off then wind it onto another spool then onto where you want it.  I am sure you can work it out though.

I use old braid for under shots on reels not needing large capacity.
When I swap out braids I keep the bottom braid that is in good condition for under shots.
I am not a fan of mono as an undershot because if you are getting close to an undershot on a big fish the braid can bury deeply into the mono backing when heavy pressure is applied....this does not happen with braid backing in my experience.
I also use a nikko pen to blacken the first couple of metres of the top shot just for a visual indicator when playing a fish....back the drag a tad when it appears to preserve the joiner knot.

Went for a morning session today, about 2 hours fishing around the neighbours and my families pontoon. I was testing a prawn SP lure which was about 65mm in a grassy green with red flickers made by a fisho on youtube. I managed to land 1 bream and hooked a 2nd however, it ripped out as it splashed on the surface (it was a smaller bream anyway). Ive been really struggling to catch just about anything these past weeks due to the decreasing temps as winter approaches. It was a lure I didn't thing bream would really hit, I was betting on a flathead.
Anyway, enough rambling. The only bream I caught over my long weekend. Came out at about 27.5cm. Really that is only a bream which is just legal but having seen the leaderboard and the biggest bream being 29cm i thought I'd add it just to ensure the Ross from Team North was kicked off the bream leaderboard and it could increase the points for team South.

    Cheers,
    Peter

Damn.... @Ross.Warwick you win....for this month. I don't have any more bream from recent to beat that. However, I will say, that bream has some very beat up fins + yours was on bait!

Give the Saltiga 12 a go.
    I love the stuff.
Super thin, super strong, great casting line.
    PE6 is equivalent to 100lb.
    Can fit 300m on a saltiga 14000.
Another one I recommend is Gosen. Awesome stuff as well.
Seems to last if not used much, which has been the case for me lately.

    Thanks Ellicat, some great info.

So would you recommend getting a higher pound strength such as 12-15lb line due to its thinness, or stick with 8lb even though it is a bit thinner than other 8lb lines?

Thanks to everybody for your replies. (Apologies for my delay in replying).
Sounds like orange or multi-colour isn't going to be a huge factor in the decision.

When @Junky said the above ^. I was reminded of some stuff i saw online.
Screenshots from my local tackle shop.
    For Jbraid x8 Expedition:
    Then for JBraid x8 Grand

I had plans of purchasing 8lb braid. As i mentions previously i had always used JBraid x8 Grand which is PE 1 for 8lb. However the new Jbraid Expedition for 8lb is PE 0.6.
Then when i look at this table below I ask myself, is 0.037mm (the difference between 0.6 and 1 PE braid) really going make a huge difference.

I would love to hear what others have to say about line PE. Seeing as Jbraid 8 Grand for 8lb is PE 1 should I get Jbraid Expedition in PE 1 12lb??
    All advice is greatly appreciated.
    Cheers,
    Peter.
