  1. Bit damp this morning for Rick and I,. After doing shrimp pots we thought we were in for a good day picking up around 12 bass at first spot and that was that. Found a few small bass on fad2 before giving up with a total catch of 17 bass with 4 between 35 and 39cm with the rest 32 and 20cm Bonus was no forkies. No photos did not want to get camera wet.
  2. what it was like on 16/11/23
  3. Another quietish day upstream at hinze eastern arm . 25 bass between 19 and 43cm plus a sickish looking saddleback yella that Joy recaptured . She had tagged it back on 16/11/23. All caught on live shrimp and tagged and released.
  4. Went to NPD this morning with Craig. Neil and Hai. Weather was a bit dreich at first with the drizzle easing and the sun coming out to a perfect glassed out day. The shrimp traps opposite the ramp were disappointing so we headed off to the first spot where we found a few bass and a couple of forkies at the first drop off before running out of bait. We then did the rest of our pots and pulled up on fad 2 and got stuck into some quality bass and the odd small forky, The fish slowed down after a couple of hours and we went to the floats where Craig caught a nice 45cm yella. We were told that there were some bass around FAD 0 but could not locate anything there so we called it a day with 6 forkies,1 yella and 41 bass with the majority of the bass being over 30cm and aprox half of them over 40cm with the largest 46cm
  5. No silver trout.
  6. Went to western arm with Rick and Joy. Shrimp traps a bit light on but good size. We were restricted to fishing in the bays due to the wind. Found one spot that was ok but as the boat was yawing a lot we kept on getting snagged besides feeding the prolific barred grunter. Found a couple pf trees where we were able to tie off fore and aft but the barred grunter still prolific to the delight of the eagle. We finished off early with a total of 26 bass ,one tandanus and a nice yella. All tagged and released,
  7. Better than a cast net full of stripy catfish.
  8. From seq water site. There used to be warning signs at both ramps but they were removed a few years ago. But still on website. I no longer eat any fresh water fish due to if I want them I have to clean and cook myself. When Steve Wilkes used to have his father and sons weekends we used to cook them at the campsite and they were great. Hinze dam fish are one of the best eating fish from all the seq dams due to the absence of bony bream. Quite a few of my mates eat them regularly. From what I have seen from the reports the elevated levels were only in the larger fish and mates only take sub 40cm fish. CATCH AND RELEASE ONLY AT HINZE DAM NOTICE SEVERITY Affected Locations: Hinze Western Boat Ramp at Hinze Eastern Boat Ramp at Hinze Dam Last Updated: Friday, 25 November, 2022 - 11:20 Seqwater has advised fishers to release and not eat fish from Hinze Dam because of naturally-occurring mercury. Queensland Health has warned that fish caught in the dam are not suitable to eat due to elevated levels of naturally-occurring mercury in longer-lived fish. For further information please contact Qld Health or go to Mercury in fish | Health and wellbeing | Queensland Government (www.qld.gov.au).
  9. All round slow day today with both the shrimp and fish hard to find. Ran out of bait by 10.30 with a tally of 19 bass and one tandan. Still good company and great to be on the water, Went upstream and only 2 trees productive a few bass just made 40cm rest mediocre.
  10. Just under 300k round trip makes a long day.
  11. Bill was very happy to fill his quota in under 2 hours.
  12. We have been trying to get up to Baroon Pocket dam for a while and been thwarted either due to availability or the dam closed due to rainfall. We finally made it this morning to find the visibility near zero due to a heavy fog that did not lift until around 8am. We used the gps to find one of out usual spots and found the bass hungry . We pulled around 40 before they went quiet so we went upstream and could not find any bass so we went downstream and found another school where we ran out of shrimp . Final tally was 62 bass and one tandan. Largest bass went 42cm and the tandan 58cm. Only disappointment was that Bucks pies were closed due to anzac day. 2 fish kept for the table others all tagged and released.
  13. 3 of us went to the western arm this morning the shrimp traps were a little light on as it is 5 weeks since we were there. We headed upstream to a few spots around the entrance of bass bay. The fish were moving around in waves and we managed 20 bass with the largest being only 40cm and the majority just over legal and one tandanus. Had to move twice because the barred grunter were stealing our bait but we got our own back on some of them and fed them to the eagles. Back at the ramp at 10.30 due to lack of bait.
  14. Beaut conditions at NPD today but fish scarce only boating 4 yellas, one spanglie, 8 bass plus normal assortment of forkies. Apart from the forkies which were everywhere the only 2 locations where we caught fish were fad 2 and the floats.. 10000000_7408471932533192_4040905805977466314_n.mp4 10000000_7677874388944579_2900292500572225816_n.mp4 10000000_7881239711921197_1428987984993565949_n.mp4
  15. After an enforced lay off I finally got to wet a line with Rick ,Joy and Amelia this morning. It originally looked that it was not going to happen as Rick had car problems and we did a turn around and went back to my place and swapped cars and we headed off an hour later. After doing our shrimp pots we headed upstream to just before the plantations and got stuck into the bass. Final tally being 79 bass and one tandanus. I had a bit of a problem handling a couple of bass around 45cm but just had to play them out.
  16. Bit harder to get your license these days. On my 17th birthday I attended Miles police station and walked away with motorbike.car ,semi, bus and restricted blasting license no tests involved. Knew the copper from drinking at the pub where I boarded. Drinking age 21 then.

  18. Had a mate ask ifI knew of someone who was reliable and reasonably priced who could weld up a bracket for a bow mount on his tinny and build up the transom. Preferably redlands or on southside. I thought that there were a few recent posts but cannot find them. Cheers Ray
  19. Must have spent a few years in the river not as well fed as in the dams. Cheers Ray
  20. Look up some of Darryl Mcphees (spelling)posts he fishes there landbased for some really good fish.
  21. I am lucky no driving for a week and no lifting more than 5kg for a month . I interpret that as no NPD forkies for a month.
