Well, I guess everyone these days knows 'monkey' is used as a derogatory term when directed at aboriginals. I think Leniu should have known better, especially after the furor created with the Adam Goodes incident. He may not have meant it in a racist way, as he has stated, but I bet he doesn't say it again. I thought the 8 weeks was somewhere in the middle of expectations. Of past friends, I never knew the real name of one. We all just called him Choc. Never thought anything of it. Times have changed. I've called my kids little monkeys when they were little too and I'm sure people still do.
  2. Wow, getting woken up by a kingy to start the day. Sounds great. Many people around at that time of day ?
  3. Never too late. I've added you in. Good to see Team North into double figures in contestants.
  4. Go the 80lb. 50 would be a weak point otherwise.

Well, that was an interesting first round, with 10 out of 12 of us failing to get even half the tips correct.
  6. That's a great feed, considering the conditions and vermin numbers. Quality too.
  7. Sounds like a lot of fun, when you can't get out in the boat.
  8. @Bob9863 might be able to give some good pointers here.
  9. Enough 'chill' to keep the beers and fish cold, in this report. haha
  10. I don't have too many problems near Mud, except for a couple of occasions, and in the river they are a rarity. But head down to Peel and further south they are unbearable in spring and summer.

I hope everyone has their tips in.
  12. There's no one answer here. In the bay out of a boat I enjoy playing a fish in with a lighter drag so as not to pull the hooks, but when the sharks are around this is fraught with danger, so I have to go harder. In the fresh, landbased at an impoundment, you can get away with a lighter drag and take your time playing a fish in as you don't have to lift the fish as much as you would in a boat. Also, throw in some structure like trees and you will need to run a heavier drag. That applies a lot in a boat near structure. My mind wanders to @Another Wazza's recent experiences trying to keep jew away from the structure and needing to lock drag or @Cobiaaddict's recent tusky adventures where the fish will run straight for structure. With the reel/rod interplay, I think you can run a heavier drag than the rod is rated for as long as you don't need to use the rod to pull a fish up, like when fishing deeper water from a boat . When that's not the case you just need to be mindful of the bend in the rod and adjust accordingly. I generally start my bay fishing with a lighter drag and adjust after the take to a level dependent on how quickly I need to get it in.

    2023 new boat

Very nice rig, tugger. Is it the same model as Ted's or a bit longer ?
  14. Welcome to the forum. When you are coming to Brisbane, let us know and we may be able to get a few of us with boats to take you and your mates out in a group. As far as what gear you will need - lots of different types, depending on where and what you're fishing for. Best to wait and find out when you know that answer.

    That's ok. I'll do it.

? Didn't I make sense ? I'm saying put up a For Sale thread in the Classifieds forum. https://www.australianfishing.com.au/forum/60-classifieds/ Then post a link to it in the Stejcraft thread that has been going for a couple of years. Everytime someone Googles for a review they come on here and have a look at that thread.

    Fish Id

I'd call it a bullrout too.
  18. Yeah, not much good until next Thursday/Friday. Not even The Pin looks doable.
  19. Decided to brave the 12 knot SE wind forecast with @Old Scaley today. I thought the Rainbow would be a bit sheltered and launched from Manly and headed across a pretty lumpy bay until we got in behind Peel. Ahhh. Steve put a trolling board with a 3" spoon out and I put a 6M Laser Pro out. First line over a previously successful spot and Steve was on. A grinner. A grinner that ran across my line and gave us an almighty tangle that required a bit of cutting. After sorting that out we proceeded and Steve picked up a nice schoolie, going 56cm. I changed down to a 2.5M Laser Pro with a smaller profile. Caught weed. Changed my rig to a trolling board as well. We passed over a bait ball and we were on alert. Double hookup and they were both thumping in the opposite direction, giving a good account of themselves. Steve's got off, but I managed to land mine, going 62 with a bit of missing tail. Steve then picked up another good one. Then we got another big tangle that required more cutting. During that time the macks moved and we couldn't relocate them. We trolled on but our luck had run out, so we retired the trolling gear and headed down to SE Peel to find the 'Hole in the Wall'. We found it, but being more exposed, was a bit rough for fishing so we headed back to Green Island. Conditions were pretty lumpy still, but not too bad boating in the same direction as the waves. By the time we got to Green things were looking ordinary, so we called it and headed back to Manly for a 12.30 finish, an hour earlier than planned. Thanks for braving the conditions, mate.

You could add a link in the Stejcraft thread to a For Sale post in the Classified forum.
  21. Tail fell off and I lost a cm or two, but 62cm claimed. Steve's 56cm Steve's 62cm
  22. You've just noticed it. There's a few club members. 'Club Member' is a carryover from the old days, where for $15 you would get a discount on site merch/comps for the year. There was also a points system back in the old days that you could use 15,000 instead of paying.
  23. I've changed the North V South comp to monthly (in case you missed it). So, if you've got some pics on a brag mat etc, you can post them up. South needs to answer @crazywalrus's entries for North. The secret signal is to have your hand in the pic.
