Mate, seriously one of the best written and easy to read reports I've ever seen on this site, well done!!  That's an incredible flathead for suburban Brisbane, truly mind-boggling. Beats my PB by 2cm!!!

Good to see you back AFO (got busy trying unsuccessfully to solve the Melbourne Cup riddle so haven't been checking daily for a few days). As a non-Facebooker it'll take me a little while to get used to the new layout however it looks good and more importantly, in my view, seems very fast which is a huge plus.  Well done and thanks as always for all of the effort put into the site.

Thanks very much for the effort you put into your post Tunafreak - much appreciated by myself and I'm sure plenty of others. I came across them a few weeks ago between Shornecliffe and the Measured Mile but couldn't entice one with a few different slugs - need to have an assortment of plastics at the ready. Geez 10 each in a day is awesome!!!

Take a look (use the Search engine) at the posts by Mullet Musketeer over the last couple of years. He has caught PLENTY of good flathead hauls walking the banks flicking soft plastics - from memory they were all within sight of the bridge too. Will give you an idea of how, when and where and then you can work out whether you use the boat for them or off the bank. Hope it helps.

Not sure about good spots to head in the boat but if you use the Search engine and search for posts by Mullet Musketeer he has put plenty of repots up over the last couple of years where he has caught PLENTY of good sized flathead flicking soft plastics while walking the banks - think they were all within cooee of the bridge. Might give an idea of where, when, how, etc and you could then work out if you do it landbased or with the boat.

It's approx 7-9km from the mouth of the river

Flick me a txt a I will tell you how to catch the macs their

Also take a shark rod and when the macs go if the bite, fish for sharks. I usually turn the mackerel into whole baits lol

I will also tell you exactly where to anchor on each tide

I might try and pick your brain soon too Kurt - hoping to go there in the next couple of weeks. Was tempted yesterday as weather was good but had 3 in my tinny (30hp) and a late start so decided it wasn't worth it for the short-ish time period.

Are the schoolies around all year but just more of them in summer, or basically just over summer? And is there just one measured mile beacon or two?

Thanks everyone for their input/information. To me, the replies in this post remind me why this website is so great - people willing to give detailed information to help someone get to know/plan for an area they otherwise have no idea about. Of course, I still need to go out and catch them, but I feel like I've got a blueprint for success simply by asking the question. Will definitely be chasing a jack at night near the enclosure, will definitely have a crack at the whiting and am hopeful of some decent tailor (or even better a jew) off the rocks.

Hopefully an interesting report will become of this.

Oh, and Ross, let me tell you if I am VERY, VERY tempted to take the tinny but have decided, with my 4 month old boy, that I'll do the family thing and go for quick sessions by foot early morning and hopefully late arvo (or otherwise during the day while mum and bub are having a nap). I'll just hope the macks aren't on the bite on the reef while I'm there!!!!!!!!

Thanks Marty. Got any tips for fishing Talley? Do they get decent whiting in there? I think I've heard/read in the past that good flathead are caught there and also jacks so should keep me busy.

Thanks Mark - just didn't want to take the pump if there weren't any around. Unfortunately not taking the tinny although was very tempting to get out and have a late crack at a mack at Palmie. Will be trying my luck off the rocks at Burleigh Heads - am assuming they normally wouldn't come in that close? Cheers.

Just chasing some info on Tallebudgera & Currumbin Creek and nearby places - can anyone let me know where I can pump some yabbies. I'm staying near the mouth of Talledbudgera - are there any in there? Hoping to spin off the rocks in the morning and then fish for whiting, etc in the arvo each day.
