At least you got out and about for a bit Ed, and got a few feeds.
If you want to go to the far north take a Jeep, if you want to get home take a Nissan.

You can upload pics to an image hosting site and post the link here.
Sounds like it was a good trev, to make up 6 meals. A shame you jagged the closure.

Unfortunately we never made it to the Daintree, Mossman Gorge or the Atherton tableland, that might be scheduled for another trip in the future. Went out on the "Dragon Lady" and despite being bricked on the Coral with a couple of huge hits, I managed to only get a legal sized Fingermark bream (Moses perch) and a semi decent Gold Spot Trevally up on board, both ended up on the plate for 6 meals. I had booked to go on the Norseman 2 days later but they notified me that they didn't have the numbers to go out, so missed out as every other boat was booked out whilst I was there.
Next day went for a sail to Mackay reef on a 25mft cat, it's a huge boat and only had about 18 people on it for the day, water was quite clean (10-15m visibility) and nice snorkeling, water was cooler than I would have liked but still quite good. They required us to snorkel together so that they could keep an eye on us, which wasn't ideal but probably done for insurance requirements to ensure they didn't lose anyone.
By the time we got down to Cairns, the reef closure was in place so no more fishing for me. Did the Kuranda rail trip whilst in Cairns and then started to head back home after 4 days, caught up with Misha (aka Sylvathorn)  on the way back at Bowen, got back home and the missus 2 days later decided we should go to go to the Gold Coast to see daughter No 1 and bub, so more driving, all up we did about 4000+ km. The car kept throwing up several more error codes on the way back from Port Douglas, but with a quick jiggle of the sensors they all disappeared, will have to get them checked out now that I am back home.
For some reason, I can't seem to post up any pics!

We had a early morning visit from some peacocks Saturday morning . I won't say what happened to them, but they won't be annoying anyone else.

Just when I thought it must be gone. It turned up yesterday. Chased my black chook over the fence this morning, (and I think into the mouth of the  neighbour's dog). Can't find the chook. Hasn't come back... Not feeling much sympathy for the turkey's cause.

As an English and Australian crossbreed😄, I moved from the uk a few years ago. I recommend what everyone else said and just wait, from what I remember the fishing tackle and brands is very different from the kind of gear you get in Australia. Most of the stuff in the uk is for uk fishing and vice versa. To get a taste for the bread and butter species a 3 inch soft plastic and roughly 1/8 jigheads will work well👍.

Too much variety of lures here I think but our domestic crankbaits and jerkbaits are fairly similar to the american stuff.
Plastics seem to be exactly same as what the yanks use and we use a lot of japanese lures like Duo, Jackall etc for everything from flathead to barramundi.
Then for offshore the stickbaits and poppers are probably the same as you get most everywhere that does that sort of fishing.
Have a look at Wilson Fishing (wholesaler) and see the range of lures they sell and you will get an idea.
No idea if lures are cheaper in UK but ZMan plastics are @AUD$11 a packet and same for BKK or TT jig heads.  Quality suspending jerkbaits like Jackall are @ $26+

Arrived around Sunrise. Weather was great.
I had two rods. One for bait. One for lures.
    Caught a few undersized. Released.
    First was nice snapper.
Ended up with two snapper. 42 & 44cms.
I caught the Snapper on 95mm Squidtrex lures. Seem to work ok.
Two nice bream. Puppy will be happy.
Just about to go & a drummer turned up. Gave me a hard time. Released.

The big plastic eels you use are almost unheard of here because we dont have sand eels....I suspect they would work here for snapper and cod.
Our cod are far different to your cod.

Don't know if it applies to The Coombabah, but nighttime outgoing/daytime incoming applies to the Nerang. That's according to whiting Guru @youngy.

Coombabah.... Was very quiet last night. We quit by 8pm. Couldn't get good worms. No difference between the worms we had and yabbies. They all caught stingrays...
