  1. G'day all, I purchased a tinny a few months back without a Hull identification number. I have had the trailer inspected and that has all gone through ok and I've registered that. Now I know I can't go ahead with boat rego until I get a HIN, is it as simple as going into the department of transport and buying one or is there more to it? Help would be much appreciated.

    Cheers Joseph

  2. G'day all. I'm hoping to get my kayak out on the weekend and was wondering where the raby bay reefs are. I've heard they hold some nice squire and the odd snapper and would like to work out where it is so I can fish it on my kayak (Viking espri). If anyone could please give me some maps, charts or coordinates I would really appreciate it. Also, how is it best fished.

    Cheers Joseph

  3. G'day everyone, thinking of trying Wellington point soon but never fished there before. I'm really big on live bait fishing and was wondering if there's much that hangs around under the pier. Should I use live bait jigs or a net and what bait have people been getting. Also, what fish other than bream, Whiting, flathead have been getting caught recently. What baits and techniques have people had most luck with in the past. All replies will very much appreciated.

    Cheers Joseph.

  4. Hello all, the other week I went down and fished at the Manly rockwall. after fishing for about half an hour I had ended up with a pike which I somehow landed a pillie on 5/0 gangs. I cut it up as strip baits and sent it back out, after a few hours of waiting I hooked up to a shovelnose shark. It was a super fun fight and ended up measuring 140cm (Then released him). If people could please give me some tips on how to catch pike consistently, that would be much appreciated.

    Cheers Joseph.

Your rigs and method is spot on for yabbies on Whiting and flathead and that spot land based is good. This is my neck of the woods and if you have a boat or kayak the sandbank opposite in the middle of the creek is an even better yabbie bank.

I'll have to take my kayak out there sometime and give it a crack, thanks for the tips. 👍

I'm glad you had some good success Joseph. The only thing the rain would affect would be the water clarity - it'd have to be heaps to go higher tides I think. I've heard of small trevally caught there too.

    Best of luck.

Thanks Hamish, it's a really nice place to be fishing too as it's pretty quite. You should give it a go.

    Cheers Joseph

Hahahaha, all good man, I used to cart the full kit, yabbie pump, bucket, and pvc pipe rod holder out over the flats, then I got lazy and just starting taking a small backpack with some plastics etc.

The humble pilly may coax a lizard?, as long as he gets to it before the hoards of undersized Bream.

Your fishing the right section though, anywhere along that bend can get you some nice whiting.

Thanks for the tips mate, much appreciated. 🤙🎣

There’s always a good chance of a flatty there, 3” or 4” plastics work well, paddle or curl tails, pepper your casts out the front of the drains off the flats as the tide recedes, sometimes the weed can hamper your efforts though

Thanks mate, I love my fishing but I'm a lazy fisherman (bait fisho) if you have tips on bait fishing there that would be great.

    Nice one mate.

I love walking out at low tide from where the pelican sculptures are.

YOu would need a flood there to change water height so don't be put off. The water quality and clarity might vary but I reckon it will bring all the fish to the mouth of the creek so worth a shot.

    How do you fish it?

Thanks mate. I also walk out from the pelican thingo and fished the spot just to the right of the channel marker that you see when you look out at from the park. I use live yabbies on a size 1 long shank, roughly a 60cm trace and to a swivel and a small sinker. When I was there I also got a few squire, a couple grunter and some other undersized Whiting. But probably the coolest thing that happened when I was there was a massive flatty smash up some bait just in front of me. He was bigger than my best flatty (74) so maybe around the 80 mark. If you could let me know how you fish it/ what fish you have pulled from the creek I would appreciate it. Thanks 👍

    Hey Joseph

Haha, my best Spot is the one marked with a big X.

You can get them all throughout the river from the mouth to up at Darra. There's heaps of places. Your best bet would be trying your local park or spot, and seeing if you can work it out. It was yonks before I got a Shark or Thready at my spot, but as soon as I started trying I started catching more and more.

    Cheers Hamish

Also mate, do you have fishbrain? If you do please let me know your name and I'll give U a follow. Cheers for the help mate🤙

    Hi Joseph

Around the Gateway Bridge is supposed to be an OK spot... I've never really fished there though.

For threadies, you can really use a trace anywhere from 30LB-80LB. Anything lighter than 30LB you may get busted off, and really, the only reason I use 80LB is so I can catch bullies too. 😉

A size 3-6 Ball/Bean Sinker should be all that is needed to get you bait down. A large-ish barrel swivel with about 50CM-1M of trace would be suitable after. Try using a 3/o-6/o circle hook based on the size of your bait. About a 15LB-30LB mainline should be adequate, so that should get you going for the rig.

The best baits are live and fresh bait. Any live Bony Bream, Silver Biddies, Poddy Mullet, and Prawns have worked well for me. Half Frog-Mouth pilchards have landed me a couple threadies too. I've only ever caught one small one on servo prawns (60CM), so maybe try and avoid that. Really, most things you get in your net will go alright, as long as it's not Glassy or Scat. They're the worst thing ever!

    Hope that helps a bit.

    Cheers Hamish

Thanks for the help mate. What's your best spot for them? Cheers.

  12. G'day fishos. I'm looking at going down to the Brissy river in the next couple of days targeting threadies. I will probably fish near the gateway bridge but know completely nothing about fishing threadies. I'm looking at cast netting some herring and prawns and using live bait. What are the best rigs and what size hooks and sinkers should I be looking for to use. Any other tips will also be appreciated.

    Thanks 👍

  13. G'day all. I'm thinking I'll put in my kayak at the boat ramp down at lota and head out to fish the mouth. I am looking to get a feed for Christmas. What I would be targeting would be anything that's good on the table. What fish are people getting at the mouth of the creek around this time and what bait is most popular. All answers will be appreciated. Thanks

  14. Hi all, I'm looking for some tips for targeting some bass in the Bulimba creek area. I have done tonnes in the way of bait fishing but absolutely nothing in the way of lure fishing so I will need some tips for when I head out on my kayak. Also, does anyone know any good places around Brisbane to get a first fish on a lure. Thanks heaps
