  1. Today I was fishing at Shorncliffe jetty with a friend and the water is as clean as the brizzy river so we didn't catch much fish. What caught my attention is a fisho using the so called sabiki rod which looks like a walker at the tip. The man was using it to catch lives as no cast net allowed at the jetty. I searched up for this online and found they cost about 90 bucks, not to bad. I wondered what your experience with it compared with castnet? I am trying to save my arms after overusing them for fishing!! okuma_sabiki_rod_L.webp
  2. Hi Hamish, glad to hear that you have found your baitrunner worthy and I expect mine so as well. Just curious if you put sinker on the line or let your bait fish swim free from landbased perspective? Have you caught any fish yet,
  3. Hello friends, After losing some big fish due to my slowness tightening drag, I have been looking at Shimano baitrunner reels. I know I can trust them but want to find a cheaper one as beginners usually do. So I went to Amazon and found the Okuma Avenger ABF B Series Baitfeeder Reels abdf40 which is only 85 bucks. Shimano OC 4000 is 149, don't you think Okuma is a bargain here. Not to mention it has 7 berrings instead of 3. Reviews are pretty good on Amazon as well. What do you think? 4. Thanks Hamish for giving me more tips, interestingly i have been staying the same spots and last year i was catching heaps of mullets but few herrings, this year is completely opposite. That's why i suspect i fish different time this year. I will definitely try using herrings for jewie and thready from now on.
  5. Thanks Jono, very helpful information and I will try your methods to get better results!
  6. Hi friends, Recently at night I use castnet to catch my bait fish herring, prawns and etc from various boat ramp and jetty in Brisbane river. However what I am looking for is little mullet and I couldn't catch any. What is the best time to catch them? Day or night? Tide Running in or out? I caught quite a lot last winter but since then I had no luck. Please help!
  7. thanks for your excellent report and I have learnt a lot from reading them, keep it up! Just a question about the catfish with red dots you caught, are they unhealthy if there is any red spots on the skin? I have seen a few of them caught near Westend and I am trying to make sense of the their appearance and the water quality in the area. Anyone here an expert on catfish?
  8. Just found this on ABC News, 1.4 metre Barra caught in river! https://amp.abc.net.au/article/100785678
  9. Thanks a lot for all your comments and I felt like embarrassed for asking the question! Well now I know the limit of a kayak and sailing boat in real life! I will definitely try the Pummicestone Passage as someone suggested. Thanks again my friends!
  10. Hi friends, I have been landbased fishing for the last two years in Brisbane and getting a bit bored by what can be caught onshore. I was wondering if anyone could give insights on kayaking/or sailing to Moreton Island from Sandgate for fishing? I am not so keen on just fishing near the shore, but traveling a bit further. However, I am not quite sure if a fishing kayak or Hobie adventure island can handle the trip on a not so calm day. I cannot afford a powerboat, therefore I prefer kayak. Cheers!
  11. Thanks mate, hope you catch a few more!
  12. Nice catch! Any chance disclose the beach where mackerel is sighted?
