  1. Cheers Guys. I'm hoping to chase Mahi Mahi with a company called Hidden Gem Charters, if they get back to me.
  2. Cheers Bob been catching many? My spot on the Ovens going alright just can't find the big ones.
  3. Hi all, Heading to Fiji first week of March for a family holiday, staying on Plantation Island. Can anyone recommend a good charter and/or beach fishing or kayak spot? (I've read elsewhere land based fishing may not be allowed). Is it worth taking my own gear or just hire there? Thanks all! I'm not very experienced in salt but usually go alright the rare times I give it a go so will post pics if I get anything.
  4. Anyone else getting this? All images have the "broken image" icon.
  5. Great fishing. Good work on recording the conditions so you know when peak times are, I wish I started that when I was your age.
  6. Hi all, I have just bought my first boat, unfortunately I won’t have a shed to put it under for a few months. I have bought an Ocean South cover that fits OK, but noticed a lot of condensation under the cover and in the boat in this weather. Has anyone found a way to combat this? Or are there covers made of different material that handle this better?
  7. Reddies and yellowbelly apparently on the chew, fingers crossed. But yeah I plan to spend a fair bit of time this Spring chasing Yella's on Hume.
  8. This is the one I ended up with. Hopefully take it out on Hume this weekend.

  10. Thanks for all the advice on this topic all, I have since pulled the trigger on a 2010 Stacer Easy Rider 509 with a 100HP Yamaha. Ill post pics when I pick it up - pretty excited.
  11. Thanks all. I rang the local mechanic who used to be an Evinrude dealer and he advised me to steer clear. I have since pulled the trigger on a 2010 Stacer Easy Rider 509 with a 100HP Yamaha. Ill post pics when I pick it up - pretty excited.
  12. Hi all, I'm looking at a Quintrex Freedom Sport, with a 130HP Evinrude Etec. unsure of year but see pic I keep hearing about vague reliability issues with these motors from one Facebook group: they have electrical issues, my mate works sea rescue and they are always getting call outs for these motors, they're expensive anchors etc etc. I'm tossing up between this boat and another with a Yamaha 100. Evinrude only has 183 hours. Yamaha has 314hrs. Any opinions on these motors?
  13. I can't catch a yella to save myself at the moment, you're making me hungry.
  14. About 5.40PM @ellicat. We had fished for an hour and a half and no luck. I cast a Bassman Tubby at a snag and saw a swirl. Next cast to same spot hit the water hard and no interest. I did a soft cast that landed nicely with little splash on the third go and pretty much knew it would take it before it hit. Fished til dark after that with no more luck. Daughter also had a bait rod with cheese on, no good. They're in there but hard to get right now, I wouldn't have got this one if I didn't notice the swirl. @Angry51 we try to limit the kids to an hour on screens a day but it doesn't always work out that way, especially if we're hungover @Bob9863 I reckon you would still be able to find them going off your recent reports.. They're in the billabong and healthy just need to be there at the right time. My mate's been catching a few yella's too.
  15. Little 48cm from our local billabong, in good nick. I caught it but daughter held and released it, she's getting good with a baitcaster and not far off catching her first cod - she's caught redfin and carp.
  16. Yeah other info tells me it should be fine. I dont really plan on taking it over the big hill to Jindabyne or the coast much, but I will be taking it up to Dartmouth Dam.
  17. Yeah I understand, thanks Ellicat. Cheaper to carry a spare too.
  18. Yeah that's reddies for you.
  19. I've been asking a few questions lately and haven't given much back. I don't get out very often so thought I'd put a few trips in one report to make it more interesting. DOn't worry, theres a few donut trips not included too. Lake Hume late Oct 2022: My mate AV and I fished the Lake Hume Classic. We had AV's 3.5m tinny, and were going to put in at Bowna but it was too windy. We went to Holbrook boat club and it was calm there. The Lake Hume Classic is a yellowbelly comp, but we didn't see a yellowbelly all day. Caught heaps of reddies though, maybe 30 or 40, mainly trolling lures until we found them then trolling over the same spot. RMG/Halco Crazy Deep in green and Orange did the most damage. Didn't catch a yella, but got a good feed and won the door prize which included a Casio watch and a good esky. The biggest: There were heaps of tiny reddies feeding on the surface at times, so I tried an Oargee as big as them for fun and hooked up pretty quick. Ovens River/Mulwala Mid December 2022: AV and I camped on the Ovens. The actual river was flowing too fast but we fished some little billabongs with good results. AV also brought his boat and we fished Mulwala, and also did an arvo with Lake Mulwala Sport Fishing to have a look at live scope which neither of us had used before. AV got a 70-something on the charter and a 61cm out of a billabong. I got thoroughly outfished, I’m the bearded bloke holding the small one. I think I ended up with one or two less than AV and no real size. Ovens late January 2023 My best session so far. By myself this time, I made a dash late one Sunday arvo over to the Ovens for a crack at another little billabong we hadn’t fished much. There was a storm brewing and the cod were going crazy. I landed 8 in 4hrs between 5 and 9pm, including 1 trout cod. Nothing over 49 cm, but great fun. ANd all in great nick. I caught them on hardbodies, spinnerbaits, and a chatterbait style lure but nothing on surface lures this time. Few pics below, I didn't get photo's of every one, I wanted to get my lure back in the water. See if you can pick the Trout Cod. AV fished this same creek another time and got 4 or so over a couple sessions, including his first couple of surface cod. I took my daughter over hoping she would get her first cod and got nothing despite fishing hard all arvo. Luck of the draw I suppose.
  20. Pros and cons to bigger and smaller, it might come down a bit to the individual boats for sale (inclusions, condition etc) I'm leaning towards bigger as I have access to small tinny's already. I might go and look at a 475 and find my wife and 2 kids fit fine and I'd be happy with that. A 475 I feel would be better in rivers etc while a bigger boat would be more comfortable for the family on a lake and might be better to fish from if I have a few kids with me (I already occasionly take some of the kids friends fishing and yabbying). I only have the old Isuzu powered RC Colorado so I might have to see how the bigger ones tow too. At the moment thinking bigger is better, but keen to hear the opinion of more experienced boaters.
  21. Rock Cod? Caught a few of these. I actually thought this was a Flathead i'm that inexperienced with Saltwater species - Blind shark? Banjo? What do you call this one? Saltwater Murray Cod? haha
