  1. Hi Guys i never reported back. I had a ball fishing Mill beach right at the eastern end near the rocks. About 3 sessions in late arvo into the early evening got me a good variety - pretty satisfied for someone who only ever fishes fresh. I used pillies and squid. I didn't keep any due to my lack of knowledge on whats good eating but I took photos, got them back in the water and identified them later. I tried looking for beach worms and pumping for yabbies but no good. Khalid I checked out your spot but didn't get a chance to fish it, but will put it in the bank for next time. Rock Cod? Caught a few of these. I actually thought this was a Flathead i'm that inexperienced with Saltwater species - Blind shark? Banjo What do you call this one? Saltwater Murray Cod? haha Thanks again for the advice everyone, had great fun!
  2. Hi all, I am considering a second hand bow rider to cover dual duties as my bigger fishing boat and a family fun boat for towing tubes etc.. I'm looking at Quintrex Freedoms and Stacer Easy Riders primarily but happy to hear other suggestions. I want to use mainly for Murray cod and yellowbelly fishing in rivers and lakes, but have some concerns, and hoping some of you may have experience with this: * I plan to build a flat, removable casting deck for the front seating area. Looks like it should work but these boats have considerably higher sides than your usual cod fishing boat. Will this be an issue? * A lot of the Quintrex Freedoms don't have very big motors, and don't seem to be rated for very high HP motors. Will say a 60-75HP tow a tube on one of these boats? * Are they ok in shallow water encountered when cod and yella fishing? They seem to have a deeper draft. Any info would be appreciated, I have access to small tinny's so thinking something more multi - purpose might be the go. Just don't want to shoot myself in the foot by trying to do too much with one boat.
  3. How has it worked out Leigh? I'm considering a bowrider with a casting deck too.
  4. Thanks for all these replies again guys. @KhalidMSyedyou've gone to a lot of trouble marking up that photo for me, thankyou. I've got young kids so only have a limited time fishing, info like this is really appreciated.
  5. Those RMG 8m lures are good trolling on the reddies too, bright green one goes well for me.
  6. Wow, the info in the replies is really great, thanks everyone. I will return the favour with more freshwater reports! @ellicat, I have spotted some of @Bob9863's reports and yes he's getting some rippers, he's doing a lot better than me!
  7. Hi, I live a long way inland but going to Murramarang near Bateman's Bay in a few weeks. Plenty of experience with trout, redfin, cod etc in the fresh but have done bugger all salt fishing, so have a few noob questions to get me started: I have a beach rod - what line and leader should I spool it with for fishing the Durras area, and what bait? What rod and reel for estuaries/rivers in this area? I have plenty ranging from small trout spinning rods up to big Murray Cod baitcasters. And again, what bait and lures? Pretty keen on having a crack at Bass. Also considering taking my kayak to try on Durras lake. Thanks!
  8. Hi Khalid, I am heading to this area in January. I haven't done much saltwater fishing and I was wondering what bait you are using?
  9. Yeah I'm excited but scared to get onto a decent cod in this thing haha.
  10. Got myself a kayak, took it for a test run in Lake Hume yesterday. Didn't catch any fish but I didn't fall out, so I'm calling the trip a success. Make: Safari H20 Model: The Murray Fishing
  11. Hi all, I'm picking up a kayak this weekend. I'm looking for recommendations on a suitable baitcasting rod that's reasonably short (around 6' or so) but heavy for accurate casting of big lures for big cod in rivers and creeks. My front runner is a Venom cork handle baitcaster, and Millerods Cod Freak. Has anyone used a Dobyns Fury? And of course Daiwa, Shimano and Okuma? I would like a 2 piece though if it's quality isn't compromised. I already have a Bone Voyage 7'3" for bigger water, I need something for the kayak and skinny water.
  12. Hi, looking to buy a 2nd hand kayak in the RIverina or NE Victoria. Cheers
  13. Yeah it was so strange, just luck of the draw hey. I'm flat out catching them on bait in the best cod fisheries with my mates reeling them in next to me, but I snag this one off the surface in a 10m wide billabong in shallow water thats usually thick with carp. Buggered if I know, but its not far from home so I'll be hitting it more now especially next summer. And I really enjoy this skinny water fishing from the bank.
  14. First one off the surface on the weekend! Almost jumped out of my skin!! Just in the little Billabong near home. Couldn't measure him I left my brag mat too far away and I was keen to get him back in the drink, but very fat and healthy
  15. Yellowbelly on a Oargee 75mm plow I think. Mates bigger cod was on an Old Mate, similar to an Oargee/Stumpjumper Both lures were bright green with orange and a nearby boat caught a Yella on similar as well.
  16. Edited the Yellowbelly photo as it had my name in it. Yeah thats my PB so far so was pretty happy. My mate ended up getting a 62cm on the troll. Learnt a bit, I dropped what I think was a good yellowbelly on too light gear. And was first trip for my mates electric motor, we ran it out of battery haha. All my new gear worked great though. Hooked now, planning next trip.
  17. Couple from GoFish Nagambie on the weekend, obviously didn't win the $80k!
  18. I bought an old fishing book at the op shop that reckons Flopy's are the go for Murray Cod in the lower Goulburn. I'd never heard of them and now I've heard about them twice this week.
  19. Hey mate I'm interested in telescopic rods for on the motorbike, let us know how you go.
  20. Note these are not all mine, but some my kids, and brother & sister inlaw. Nothing of any size in recent years (I caught a pretty big Yellowbelly as a kid that I've never beat yet) but I've just got a decent cod baitcaster set up and heading to the Goulburn next week for 3 days straight fishing. Carp at local Billabong Silver Perch and cod from houseboat near Echuca Few little trout and redfin from up near Mitta The spinner shown below was painted by my daughter with nail polish haha
  21. Just spinning mate. Would love to learn flyfishing at some stage though.
  22. Hi All, Male 36 here, looking to get back into fishing like I used to as a kid. I'm interested in fishing for natives in the Riverina and trout in the high country of VIC & NSW. Chased some trout over Xmas and going for a trip to Nagambie soon after the natives. Also going to start strapping a rod to my motorbikes to combine 2 of my hobbies. Cheers.
