  1. Yeah I was looking into getting one of those because the part of the river I fish is particularly deep I think because even bream and stuff get barotrauma
  2. I know I haven’t really been. Catching anything these past few weeks and now I have been catching too many
  3. After this Arvos success at shark fishing I thought I might try my hand at some salmon fishing. I netted some big prawns and set the rods out. I managed to get a nice 95cm threadie that had pretty bad barotrauma and was hooked in the gills so he came home for dinner. I will take a picture of it next to something green when I fillet it tomorrow morning, so look out northsiders.
  4. Hi all i have recently started targeting some brisbane river bullsharks near my home in Bulimba as it is starting to warm up again. I had some success on Sunday when I caught a nice 84cm pup (which I was pretty pleased with). I finished school early today and thought I might try and catch a few more. I sent out some fairly small slabs of eel and a big eel head on my bigger spin rod. After waiting for around an hour I started getting some small taps on my bigger spin gear and didn’t think much of it so I waited for about 10 minutes. All of a sudden it springs into life and takes a slow run, so I flick over my bait runner and hold on. To my surprise my it shoots off taking a run lasting around 30 seconds on tight drag. It takes me 15-20 minutes to finally get it to shore and it turns out to be a 207cm behemoth off a bullshark. I sent it’s two remoras back into the river and managed to dehook it and it released (after some coaxing) back to its home safely. For context I am 6,3 so it looks small
  5. Mine would probably a 95cm thready or a massive 185cm pike eel
  6. I picked up my umbrella and braved the rain for a Brisbane river fishing session. I netted a few prawns and hoped for the best. I managed to pick up a nice squire but also a few catfish and an angry pike eel PS: the snapper had pretty bad barotrauma so it should make a nice dinner.
  7. Nice catch Hamish, i've seen a few threadys being caught recently i think im going to start targeting them again.
  8. Nice work Wilson i think the threadies should get a bit more active as the water warms up in the next few months. I find the 2 hours before high tide tend to be most productive.
  9. As some of you may know I have been on a mission to catch another thready this winter I’ve had so many nights fishing without sight of gold. So I went out for a fish tonight with no expectations. I set out a few live prawns as usual and went back to cast netting. When I heard the faint sound of a reel turning over. I ran over, flicked my bait runner into action and held on it took heavy drag like it was nothing. after a few good runs I managed to tame it and brought it closer when I saw a huge threadfin salmon. I pulled it up onto the rocks and tried to pull it closer when tragedy struck…. My leader had snapped, my heart sank as I saw it sliding back into the water and swim off. I reckon it was about a meter 20 because it was a lot bigger than my last one which was 97cm cheers Thorbjörn
  10. No I’ve only been catching catfish and bream but I hope if it warms up a bit the fish come back on
  11. Hi all I usually fish with live baits but recently have been trying lures for fish like bream and flathead for a bit of fun while the threadies and Jew aren’t biting. I haven’t actually caught anything on lures such as soft plastics and deep diving minnows but would appreciate any help with actually catching anything. thanks Thorbjörn
  12. Hi I was wondering if your are allowed to take things like rods and fishing carts onto the city cats because I can’t drive and there are lots of spots I want to try out that are near city cat terminals thanks Thorbjörn
  13. Thanks for all the help with the salmon fishing. But I’m going fishing regulary (every 1 or 2 days) and only catching catfish, about 3 a session. Do you have any tips for keeping the catfish away. Thanks Thorbjörn
  14. I thought it might have a been a small thready because it didn’t have much weight to it and was peeling heavy drag off like it was nothing
  15. I went fishing again tonight with still no thready but some welcome bycatch with a 36cm bream and a not so welcome catfish
