  1. Thanks Angry. Any one else here from around Yeppoon?
  2. Going by Google Maps we're 24.89km north of Rockhampton. I go for the Maroons and have a 12 month membership with the Capras, does that help?
  3. We're going to the middle bit. Actually born & bred in Sydney so don't really qualify as a Mexican.
  4. Prolly leave it a week or two until we settle in. We leave Wodonga for ever on Australia Day. Should be there by the 27th. Hamish has given me some good ideas about where to fish and what to use.
  5. Mine is to discover some good fishing spots around Yeppoon and catch my first saltwater fish in many years. 13 days to go until we're there.
  6. Thanks Bretto, I shall cherish my brownie points badge.
  7. Sorry, I'm new here (wonder how long I can use that excuse). Apologies.
  8. Many years ago a mate & I were sitting in the shallows of the Kiewa river late one summer arvo having a beer and enjoying the cool water. We'd been there for about half an hour and next thing this six foot red bellied black swims down stream between us and kept going. Thought it was a stick at first then realised rather quickly that it was a snake.
  9. Thanks Hamish, I'll look them up on the BCF website. There have been lots of for sales on Facebook Yeppoon recently and some look like good bargains. A bloke at Kinka Beach had a massive garage sale this weekend, looked like he was selling an entire fishing shop. My daughter went there and bought me a whirlybird roof ventilator brand new for $10. I'll have a closer look when we're up there permanently later this month. 25 days to go. Matt.
  10. Thanks mate. Certainly have some wierd names for fishing gear. https://www.bcf.com.au/p/zman-minnowz-soft-plastic-lure-3in-6-pack-opening-night/286186.html
  11. I think it was a Prymil Zephyr 4000. On special at BCF. It's packed away in a box ready for the move. Only a basic reel but should be good for starters. I've also got a Sportfisher BoatRiot FPS-20 rod which someone gave me about twenty years ago. There have been plenty of for sales on the Yeppoon/Rocky FaceBuy site so I'll keep my eyes open there. Can you suggest a line & lure setup for flathead? Matt.
  12. Thanks ellicat, will be asking many questions. I'm a bit of a newbie and haven't been fishing for many years. My rod is ancient but I bought a new reel recently at a BCF sale. Still need to get line and tackle though. I'm not too sure what I'll need in this department. Some of the talk of lures etc on here and other places is a bit cryptic but I'm sure I'll pick it up with reading & research. Couldn't be worse than some of the acronyms that Defence comes up with.
  13. Thanks mate, I'll try and get my trusty AE93 Corolla up there when I get a chance. These cars go anywhere.
  14. Thanks Hamish, just had a look on Google maps. Sort of near Byfield. What are the roads like getting there? We've only got a 2WD at the moment. I've been up a few of the roads near Byfield, the one up to Shoalwater Bay training area wasn't too bad, a bit rutted though. Do you need a 4WD?
  15. Hi Kat, the locations would be great. Any tips would be most welcome.
  16. Thanks Hamish, I'm looking forward to dropping a line. I haven't been fishing for years as I'm not into river/dam fishing. I read in a couple of your posts about some good fishing spots, will have to try them.
  17. Hi, Im Matt. I am in the process of retiring from Defence after having worked for them since 1997, 25 years is a long time. LSL until 30th June 2023. We bought a house in Yeppoon back in January and moved my daughter in back in November once the tennants moved out. She's a pharmacist in Rockhampton. First came to Yeppoon in 2017 when she moved up here to do her internship and fell in love with the place. We have just sold our house in Wodonga (Socialist Republic of Victoria) and will be moving permanently to Yeppoon at the end of January 2023. I'm looking forward to spending my time fishing and learning about it more in depth. I want to eventually buy a small tinny and try estuary fishing. Hoping I can pick up a few tips from more knowlegeable people on this forum. Cheers.
  18. This is Louie the Wonderdog having a coffee with me from Lure at the Yeppoon foreshore ealy one morning. He's eight in February and a great little dog. His mum died from a snakebite when he was around three weeks old so was hand reared. He's very timid for a JR and is scared of his own shadow. My daughter bought it for me to replace our old dog from a place near Bendigo.
  19. Hi Hamish. Where were you fishing? Looks like the road up to Fishing Creek just north of Yeppoon on the Farnborough road. Apparently crocs have been seen there and there is a sign warning about them. Matt.
  20. The Qld Fishing 2.0 app has a facility where you can take a photo of the fish and upload it to their database and hopefully be identified. It's down the bottom under "Which fish is this". I have never used it but have used other ID apps with some good success. Matt.
  21. Andrew Ettingshausen on his fishing show (Escape with ET) recommends these. I've never used them but may be worth a try: https://www.escapetravelsickness.com.au/ Matt.
