Looking for carp got a reaction from Ross.warwick in Hunting southeast Queensland carp... for science.
    Hey gang,
I'm a PhD student looking to see how all of the carp in southeast QLD are related by setting up essentially ancestry.com for carp.
But to do this I need carp. Lots of carp. well, specifically their fins.
I'll grind them up, suck out the DNA and create a family tree of all the carp to see where they fit in with the rest of the world.
To date I've had help from a handful of fishers but SEQ is a big place and carp are finicky.
So I ask if anyone happens to catch a carp anywhere north of the border and east of Toowoomba, and wants to contribute to science, shoot me a message or post on this topic where you have disposed of your fish and I'll swoop in like a vulture and take my sample.
A location and the bin you have thrown the bugger in is all I need and I'll be there as fast as humanly possible.
I have permission and permits to take samples and transport them around so you don't have to worry about the DPI, fisheries, etc.
I have little to offer in return but am more than happy to share any of my findings with anyone and everyone and you would of course be named if you so wish in any publications I put out.
Thank you if you have read this far and happy fishing.
