Google Chris Britton Rods. He is a custom rod maker - lists the specs of rods he makes. If any of your rods dont match the rods he makes then I would say you wont use it.
Really here in Brisbane you can fish:
Light Tackle Game
Heavy Tackle Game
Offshore (pelagic and demersal)
Inshore (Moreton Bay) (same but the smaller species normally)
Beach (ie surf)
Estuary
Impoundment natives
Freshwater native fish
Depends on what you want to target but personally I think for inshore and estuary the 2500-5000 size Shimano reels are about right depending on how heavy a stick you want to use. For overheads Shimano 200 class mainly though you can use 150’s as the water isnt that deep (not much over 20m is the deepest part of the bay)
Offshore Shimano SW reels from 5000-14000 for spin and overheads up to @ Shimano Talica 20 depending on the stick you match with. (20m-100m is the normal depth ranges with the closer reefs in the 30-40m depth and then 100m before you get into deep dropping)
I just use the Shimano sizes because I dont know Daiwa and other brands very well.
If you are a tournament fisher then you may get into the bream or bass tournament scene they will fish ultra light so if you have anything in the 1-3kg and Shimano 1000 size reel you may want to bring it.
That's some superb info, thanks so much.
At the moment I'm using mostly penn reels in the 2000-7000 rang for all my shore fishing then multiplyers for boat.
Out of interest, what species do you fish for in the "impoundment natives"?

I’ve never heard of most of those things, so I would say probably not.
@Bob9863 may be able to provide you with some good advice surrounding the international gear.
I thought not as I'd never seen anything similar there

Hi guys,
Could someone advise on this please....
We are moving to Brisbane in April and I'm currently sorting what fishing gear to bring with me(I have lots )
Obviously I'm bringing my sea(boat/shore), fresh water (bait, fly, lure) but,I have lots of match fishing tackle as I fished comps in the UK (roach, barbel, chub, etc).I have pole and rods(feeder, waggler, bomb, stick) as well as trolley, ground bait buckets,rollers,etc,etc....the full set up. now,is there any point in that gear coming with me?is there a use for that tackle over there?.or do I try to sell it and buy more sea gear
Many thanks
Simon

90% of the folk here just tie as required.
3 main types used here are paternoster, a running lead with leader or running lead straight to the hook.
We generally do not complicate the job being fancy.
Buy some leader material, circle hooks and swivels and you will be set for most of out bait fishing.
If you want to pre-make something, snood 2 hooks 60mm apart on about 3 feet of leader material.....it is that easy.
Funnily enough I've just made a few of them for my trip tomorrow! .it sounds very similar to here then

I'm pretty sure the trout in Australia are the same as in the UK - in Australia we have brown trout which were introduced from the UK and rainbow trout which were introduced from the USA. Rainbow trout were also introduced into the UK and are now established in the rivers and lakes. I don't think we have sea trout like you have in the UK but they're just freshwater brown trout that have headed out to sea and the saltwater river estuaries and undergone a colour change from brown to silver in the process.
I thought I'd heard of rainbows and browns in Tasmania but didn't know they where right through . obviously knew of the coral trout but thought that was it

The big plastic eels you use are almost unheard of here because we dont have sand eels....I suspect they would work here for snapper and cod.
Our cod are far different to your cod.
Your trout are very different to ours too!.looking forward to getting to grips with new lures and methods

hey mate i wouldnt mind organising a fish with you and can show you a few spots and put you in the right direction, im more of a saltwater fisherman, love rivers canals ocean, dont mind fishing freshwater every once in a while
Hey Mzaakir!
That's so kind, will definitely stay in touch. That sounds great, hard to pick but I'd probably rate sea as my favourite type due to the unknown of what might turn up.do love a bit of lure/bait fishing on the rivers too.

That area can be tricky fishing, normally just catfish on dead bait, you’re better off trying with some live bait in the lower reaches of the river for a wider variety of species (Threadfin, Jew, snapper, etc).
Funnily enough that's what I caught if I remember rightly small little catfish.

Your best shot is land here and immerse yourself by going out with a local and learn what you want to target and how to target them.....there are too many options here for being vague and you could not possibly cater for them all within two years.
If I was to select two lures for an overall shot at things locally I would opt for a 4" Powerbait Minnow in pearl watermelon and a 3.5" soft plastic prawn......both would be eaten by most fish if worked correctly.
Yes makes sense. As I haven't a clue on species it would be a stab in the dark.we use lots of plastic/rubber eels here for our bass fishing, fish ranging from 1lb-10lb+.in the rivers for our salmon, trout and sea trout we use lots of metal spinners and rapalas.
