Used to fish canal bridges on the goldie just at or around this height.
The compromise we made (at the loss of "feel") was to go heavier rods and try to pendulum swing them over the bridge railings. You will definitely lose some this way but it beat carrying around a net/gaffe.
It always made for some good banter if the mates, stuffed up the swing and hit the railing (and lost the fish) or vice versa, some over the top swings saw "flying" fish up and over onto the adjacent bridge road. hahahahaha

There is a knack to it.
Once you have the flatty on the water surface you start the swing....you have to commit to getting it over the railing 🙂  in one go.
As soon as the water is not holding the fishes weight - Gravity is your enemy and that is when hooks get pulled.
So its a swing from the water surface (almost sling shoting it) straight up and over.
With a softer rod this isn't possible to sling shot over. You really are just scull dragging the fish out of the water.

The Australian Standard for Personal Flotation Devices (PFD) – AS 4758 was introduced into recreational boat legislation nationally on 1 July 2010.
So hopefully this will give you an idea if you have some PFDs to replace.

Hweebe got a reaction from Rebel in New boat, what to get?
$60k is definitely on the low end for a NEW platey. You would have to compromise on size (length) to fit into that budget and be on the water.
I would go secondhand brand name platey in that price range.

    Questions:
    1) What's the bar crossing like in your area? Is it relatively tame or sketchy?
    2) How many people will be fishing onboard?
    3) How far is the run to your offshore spots? What's your ideal cruising speed / motor hp combo?

I headed out this morning for a flick, and didn't realise until I got there that I'd left my bigger heavier lures at home, as I'd been drilling them out and filling them with lead shot to get some extra distance as the fish have been holding out pretty far recently.
All I had was some soft plastics and small lures, so I packed up the big rod and fished the little 3kg finesse rod with a 1000 size reel and 6lb braid.
Things went pretty slow until I started seeing some yellows following in my plastic, so I put on a little atomic vibe and fitted an assist hook on the rear, the 1st fis o got was a small foul hooked carp, so I wasn't to hopeful. But then I landed a couple aof reasonable yellows right at the bank tea bagging at a ledge, lost two more and then got smoked by something big.
I hooked in and had a hell of a fight thinking I'd foul hooked another carp as there was no head shakes just a lot of weight holding ground. I played it for another 10min, then it came up about 15 yards out and it was a very solid cod.
Every time I got it near the net it just swam away, it just wouldn't go near the net at all. My drag was light, my rod was too, 6lb braid didn't give me much confidence and the little hooks didn't fill me with a lot of hope either, I couldn't afford to mess anything up.
So I slow played it, tried to manoeuvre it into a better position and finally got it in the net.
74cm 6kg cod on 6lb braid, trmurned out being a pretty good day after all.

You probably won’t need to bend over to tie your shoelaces for a while after that arm stretching session, Neil. Great stuff.

Took my brother for a mackerel trip today.
With a week break on the Spanish Mackerel closure opening up today they were the target species.
With  4 super fresh baits  acquired we  went straight to one of my favourite spots ,drove over it , and there was an extremely large school of Mac’s at home , they were stacked 24 metres deep.
I put two  tuna into the water, they were dead but still bleeding , we both knew it was going to be a sure thing that they’d go off super quick . I’d just finished putting the second bait out and the first one went off. Couple of minutes later he was in the esky . My brother turned the boat around and ran back over the fish , I deployed the second bait , it was bang again,  stupidly I grabbed the rod again ,my brother was pissing him self laughing as he knew I was already stuffed from the first fish . After a few swear words , he gaffed the second fish , then we went and got a couple of Grassies before heading home .

I am keen to try it in deeper water.  They say 100feet is fine.  Next time I venture out to Harries and the like will try it in that 20m range.  As I said, just playing with it got a better understanding of how to adjust the manual ranges better and what it means so really keen to try it in down mode over the wrecks or forward mode around any of the beacons.
I had a great time looking at the geen channel marker at Clara rocks yesterday which is in 12m of water - should have recorded it, you can clearly see the base structure of the beacon and some form of platform that is well below water.  Sort of like a bell shape.  Quite interesting but no fish around it worth talking about.

Must be an IT guy thing (I'm also IT Project delivery) and also had to get my boat kitted out with all the latest gadgets and electronics when i got my boat (DIY of course)
When are you going to get Sonar on your boat and then open it up to auto pilot hahaha (not because you need it but because its a tech gadget 🙂
Getting the sounders dialled in and settings to what you want is as you say time on the water.
I always thought livescope was more for your fresh water fishing (all the US Bass guys run it) In salt water and deeper water does it come in handy.
I've seen vision of livescope for the guys that go prawning. Now that's a sight seeing the prawns and cast net live.

Went back down the port this afternoon looking for more jew like last week.
Found scattered jew near where I found them last week on the run out....water was running too hard to effectively fish....went up the river for two small squire...1 about 40 the other about 55cm....the 55 came home.
Went back to the jew at the change of the tide and they were not schooling or feeding.
Ended up anchor locking over a couple of pairs of fish a few times for no result....that's fishing for you.
I gave my deckie the snapper to take home....poor bugger didnt get a single sniff today.
Nothing worthy of a photo today.

My boat lives behind a locked gate and under security cameras so I have bolted the minn kota without any quick release mounts, plus it is hard wired to the battery through a 60 amp trip switch.
My charging iv with a Victron 12/17 amp charger though a anderson plug.....you do have to keep an eye on the anderson plugs for corrosion.....i clean mine every 6 weeks or so before it crusts up with corrosion.
If you do not need to remove your electrics I suggest hard wiring everything and do not disconnect....esp sounders...those tiny pins are so prone to damage and quickly die with corrosion.
The less connections that can be exposed to atmosphere the better.
A good idea to dip your connectors on liquid insulation after making the termination....just be sure to clean it off at electrical contact points.

I feel like 15 amp power cable is a typo?
    I also installed with:
inline isolation switch (or you could just plug / unplug the Anderson connections) battery terminal lugs padlock (if wanting to secure trolling motor when using quick release) stainless steel bolts / washers / nuts and bit of silicon between bow mount metal and the washers CTEK /Victronsmart quick connect for the trickle charger Cheap ebay Bluetooth monitor to check remaining battery capacity / charging I went overboard on the wire guage as i'd read the minn kotas can be at times fickle with voltage drops for longer cable runs.
As @Old Scaley said no soldering required, if you buy the joiners, but because i have a soldering iron already, this is obviously cheaper to strip and solder the wires.
If you buy an inline fuse that can also be switched on / off / reset - you can get away without installing an isolation switch.
Something to consider is if you want to be able to charge the trolling battery with your outboard. I didn't deem this necessary for my fishing sessions.

One of the boys caught a 75cm kingfish. He had a great fight. He knew he was alive. Never caught a kingfish before.

    Caught 2 snapper 48 & 50CM.
    2 more bream.
Bait was Fresh squid, Aussie prawns, Metal lures.
My Squidrex lure caught the snapper.
I had a new reel Big Boss 6000 spin. Not the most expensive reel around. Was given to me by Jarvis Walker to try out. Performed well. No problems. I had 15lb Pretest Mono line on it. Drag was very good.
Top afternoon. Every body was happy.
We are going to have a BBQ tonight.
    Cheers.
